Kaine had gotten a burger for lunch that afternoon as he had gone to one of the nearby fast-food places. He sat down at one of the nearby tables eating by himself as he did not mind the quiet noise. He had come well after the lunch rush of people ordering food after they went to work making it around 1 pm as he had hoped for some peace. He unwrapped his burger as he heard the news report of breaking news flash on the screen. Most of the time, he would have ignored it. There were other superheroes out there that could have done the job while he was there. “Breaking News! There has been a robbery going on at one of the banks in the Downtown area in the Queen's part of town. We have not been able to uncover much other than it was a set of criminals wearing masks of Hulk, Thor, Ironman, and other heroes as putting them to shame.” Kaine just about squished his milkshake into pieces as it went all over the place.
It was one thing, but the Peter in the back of his brain was going off here that he should at least investigate or try to stop what was going on here. He stuffed his food down, before heading out the door, without a second thought. So much for a relaxing day. So much of not wanting to be a superhero and save the day. Kaine had zero confidence in himself that he might make it. It had always been Peter Parker, his template. He had donned on his Scarlet Spider suit, the red and black one down an alleyway after making sure no one saw him as he still had a secret identity.
Kaine began web-sling his way over to the bank. It was a large skyscraper with police surrounding it. Behind the building, there was a getaway van for the members who had tried to rob the place. The back entrance looked like they blew to pieces as Kaine stood on a lamp post before observing what was going on. He knew he could not go in not to the chaos as the cops and enemies would have the guns blazing at him. But he knew one thing lives were probably in danger. “Some days, I hate these jobs. And this must be one of them." Kaine complained.
He climbed onto the building on one of the side entrances as he heard yelling. Someone mentioning of opening a safe. With all the chaos that was going on Kaine wondered what else would happen. As he climbed through the side window, he saw one of the masked idiots. He was so quick to throw a punch at the man square in the jaw his Hulk mask clattered to the floor as he knocked the guy out. But for extra carefulness, Kaine webbed the guy up so he couldn’t move. “Now for your ‘friends’.” The Scarlet Spider said.
Harley had been casing this joint for about a few days, taking note of every entrance, all the security, all the cameras. And now all that planning was put to waste thanks to some random knuckleheads that beat her to the punch. Harley stood just by the west wall of the bank. The cops surrounded the front entrance, and the robbers had taken the back, and what did you do when life didn't give you an opening? You blew one up! Harley hummed a nonsensical tune as she placed a sticky bomb on the west wall of the bank, it was nothing special, just a couple of bounds of C4 she snagged from Doc Ock's lab. With a wild smile, she pressed the button and detonated the bomb. Debris rained all around her, but she hardly noticed.
Grabbing her trusty mallet she made her way inside. "Okay Harls, just gotta find that vault." She ran through the halls of the bank in search of the vault when she came across a group of men. One was sprawled out on the floor, the other stuck to the wall and covered with this strange sticky substance. One man stood out from the rest, a fella in a high-powered suit that vaguely resembled a spider. Huh, must be one of the Spider-folks Doc mentioned. They were heroes, from what she remembered of her talk with Doc, but she was confident she could take him on if he tried to stop her.
"Thanks for takin' care of these goons for me! Now if you could just kindly step aside." Reaching into her green duffel bag she dug out another bomb, well multiple bombs. Humming a nonsensical tune she gently and strategically the dynamite sticks around the vault doors. "I recommend you take cover Spider-boy, this could get a little messy!"
With a maniacal laugh, she struck a match and lit the fuse. "BOMBS-AWAY!"

“What? The amount of TNT is so bad it could take out the entire-“ BOOOOM!
The whole room shook like an earthquake.
Before Kaine could finish his sentence, this mysterious girl with colorful pigtails walked in. He was almost certain she was not working for the other guys who were there too. She was taking advantage of the confusion in the other bank robbery. His spidey sense had gone crazy enough to alert him that there was trouble, but there was hardly enough time to react to it. Kaine managed to put up a small webbing shield. It blew him back, some of the other people in his room, and Kaine went flying.
He landed on a nearby table as the force knocked him out, blacked out for a few seconds as everything went dark. He woke up a short time later, and he was not sure how much time had passed. His head was buzzing. He was not even sure he had a concussion. Usually, his healing factor would now take care of it. As Kaine looked up, he saw there was a huge gaping hole in the wall. That had not been there before. “Ugh, I can not move. Remind me to stop doing this line of work.” He groaned, as he gingerly picked himself up. He was beaten and battered and broke the desk in two that someone had been on, he heard some more screaming, but it took him a few minutes to get his bearings back. Well most of the way back. Metal had been strewn about the room and rubble, chaos had come as the men in there were lying in it. Kaine got lucky that the blast had managed to throw him. It looked like a war zone.
Kaine had not realized yet that this woman, and he had something similar, an acquaintance.
He looked around for the girl and had no idea where she was, but he jumped forward feeling how shaky and wobbly he was. Probably getting into another fight was a bad idea, but staying here, was even worse. As the structure of the building looked unstable. If one floor had a gaping hole in it, the rest could come crashing down any minute. “Hey, where did you go!?” He called out that was when he recognized the tech. After hanging around Otto’s lab a couple of times he was starting to get familiar with it. Some had been left on the floor as he picked it up carefully. “I don't think this is yours, and how did you get it?” He asked demanding answers and he was not about to leave until he got an answer. Even if he wasn’t in the best shape, Kaine more than likely suffered a concussion or worse. He was still shaky but the head pounding was starting to get better. He had gone against worse in the past like nearly being run over by a truck. "I'm sure no one likes their tech stolen either." Kaine said, knowing that this might get interesting here. This was why Kaine never chased women nor had a girlfriend. In most in the line of his work, they wanted to kill him or wanted to blow himself to pieces... Bad luck. "Urf I don't feel so hot..." Kaine said staggering back a bit.

Harley sat up with a loud groan. So she had put a teeny tiny bit more TNT than she meant to, could you blame her? She had been holed up in Doc Ock’s lab for so long she had almost forgotten what the sun looked like. Rubbing the side of her head, and brushing her blond hair (now with the tips dyed much to her liking) she looked to the gaping hole left by the explosion. A large grin came over her face. It worked! She skipped merrily over to the new opening, stepping over the unconscious bodies of the other robber, blissfully unaware of the spider-hero that was beginning to stir behind her.
Unzipping the duffel bag she began to shovel in the money. The sound of the stacks of cash hitting the bottom of the bag was like music to her ears. Good, hopefully this will be enough to repay Doc Ock for the help. And the new suit. While the change had been a little bit of a shock to Harley, she enjoyed her new armored corset and shorts. They were even in her signature colors! Grabbing a stack of hundred dollar bills she shoved it into the back of her pocket. A little play money for me won’t hurt! Humming a nonsensical tune she tuned back around only to find the Spider-boy had finally came to, she watched in mild amusement as he struggled to stand a bit.
“Ah! You must be one of them Spider-boys I heard so much about.” She mused as she dropped the duffel bag. Reaching behind her she grabbed the large wooden mallet that was strapped to her backside. It may not have been the original she adored, but this mallet was just as good, and in need of some serious usage. “You ain’t gonna try and stop me are ya? I sure hope so, I could use the work out!”
“Don’t worry about the tech Bug-boy, it’s a loan! I’ll pay the guy back, don’t you worry about that. Besides, you got bigger things to worry about: like ME!”
Harley charged at the hero, swinging her mallet at the man. It had been a few days since her recovery, and there were parts of her that still ached, but she had never felt more alive. She hadn’t gone on a caper without the Joker since, well, ever! To her delight she still remained limber and strong.

The room was spinning, and Kaine thought he saw stars in his head. The blast had knocked out the wall. And he was amazed at all that he and the other workers in the room were still alive, for that matter. He had survived death his whole life. Who was to say he was going to die now? As he was still struggling with his problems, the aftermath of the concussion, she was getting away, and he didn’t like it one bit. Kaine had been one of the first ones to get up as he moved forward. He heard her humming and skipping making the headache already a lot worse than it was.
“The name is S-scarlet Spider!” Kaine said despite not feeling right, he felt wobbly and off balance. He just hoped that his head would clear soon and his senses would come back. He was probably suffering from a mild concussion and in denial about it in the first place. He felt wobbly, head pounding, ringing in the ears. Kaine had always gotten back up and fought in the end. But when was it to say that he had too much? His spidey sense was enough to wake him up just a bit as and he saw something coming his way. All those years of training with the Jackal had caused him to become a bit of an instinct, and using his powers, and he made a loud snikt noise as his stingers came up ready to block the attack. Harley was a lot stronger than she looked as he was pushed back a few steps. He couldn't believe that he might have the chance of being beaten by a girl.
“I’m a little bit different than most spiders you’ve heard about, probably the same here. Spider-Man is my brother. I don't know how bad of a shape, I am in from the blast, but I will fight until I can't stand.” Kaine said. “And one other thing: I must ask who you are working for!?” He demanded in a serious tone. Kaine wanted to make sure, and he got all the information he needed before he was out of here. Little did he realize that the two of them had been working for the same person. Well, Kaine appeared to be more reluctant. Lately, he had called this man a friend or even an acquaintance.
“I’m not moving u-until y-you tell me,” Kaine said rather stubbornly as a fight was about to commence, yet he was in no shape for it. Though the concussion questions. It would not work on him. He didn’t know what day it was anyways. As if Kaine was not messed up, as is already He had always tried to do his best. But this girl was unpredictable, and if it weren’t for his spidey sense, this would’ve been much worse. Just who was she? He had never seen her before and took the opportunity to rob the bank while it was being robbed. That wasn’t just smart, and it was also crazy. Thwip thwip! Finally, he managed to send some webbing towards her hands.

"Ya know, for a guy who just got caught in an explosion you are very spry," Harley said in between her swings at the hero. The guy seemed resilient, perhaps he had some type of super-strength, or maybe super-durability. She had known a few heroes, and her fair share of villains back in Gotham, who had similar abilities. Though none were spider-themed and even less seemed as keen as approaching Harley as this one. And not sported the same web-shooting capabilities as this one either, at least she assumed that the sticky substance being flung at her was webbing.
The first splotch of webbing struck the top of her mallet, sticking it to the wall behind her. The jester gripped the mallet and yanked at its handle to no avail. Aw man, it's stuck. I really liked that mallet too. "HEY! THAT WASN'T VERY--" Harley shouted before being cut off by another ball of webbing coming her way, this time catching her by the wrist. "Uh oh. This is not good." Grabbing her bound arm she furiously struggled.
"What's yer obsession with who I'm working with anyway? You probably don't even know the guy you crackpot!" Harley retorted hotly. She cast an angry glance at the Spider-man. The day had been going so smoothly, well, as smoothly as days could go for Harley Quinn, and she had actually managed to pull off a decent heist. Or she would've had it not been for this Bug-boy guy.
"I work for Doc Ock. I owe the guy big time." She answered as she ceased struggled, digging through her pockets to find something to cut through the webbing.

Spry? That had been a first for calling him that. Usually, people mistook him for Spider-Man or called him things like Web-Head, freak, spider freak, or even pest. All things to good insults. "I have super human durability I've survived things that should've killed normal humans." Kaine said.
So Kaine’s feeling had been right all along. He had been feeling something odd about this as he had seen that tech once or twice before. With his brain scrambled, this was enough to knock some sense into him. “What the heck!? We are working for the same Doctor, and I can’t believe he didn’t tell me.” Kaine said he was a bit frustrated. Figures, keeping secrets from him as he felt mad and confused at the same time. It was true, he wasn’t smart like Peter was. He did have his brain, but he should’ve known. He was kicking himself in the back for not knowing this earlier.
“I gave him a truce not that long ago, it is a long story,” Kaine said. “That is why I was being so demanding on finding out who you worked for…” He spoke. “I will let you leave, on one condition, as you drop the money there are better ways than thievery. Do not ask or change my mind, and that is between Otto and I. And a long story. Seems that we can both keep secrets here.” Kaine said pointing a finger. “As for your mallet, you will have to wait a few hours before it dissolves.” Kaine said seeing the woman struggling with getting the mallet off the wall. It really had been stuck hard since it had been harder than glue for that matter. Kaine knew that it was going to be worth his while sticking around here.
“Next time I see Otto, I am going to stick a spider in one of his lab machines, or in his coffee,” Kaine said. He remembered his fear of spiders well from their Jungle adventure. Grumbling and mumbling to himself. He was so angry he forgot probably about his concussion at that moment. His head was still pounding from the explosion earlier. Yes, he did have some form of durability, but that was not enough to leave him dead he should have been dead many times before.
“I will tell you one more time. Drop. The. Money.” Kaine said in a serious tone. Otherwise, he was not budging from his spot. It was clear his patience was wearing thin. As things got bad to worse here. He had thoughts of webbing it to her hand that would not have been kind. Before Kaine could do anything else, he felt his spidey sense go off. With a course of change of plans here he got his stingers out as he cut the mallet off giving it towards Harley as it was still a little bit sticky. He couldn't believe he was doing this. Helping a super villain? Next Jonah Jameson will tell the public that he was helping the robbers. Well he didn't take any money. Otto had told him to a blind eye, and he sort of did. He was just very puzzled on his own morals here. Spider-Man would've stopped the whole thing because he's Mr. perfect. Well, Kaine wasn't. "Change of plans. Get out of here! I will make an effort to get you out of here. The cops are on our doorstep, and we are in enough trouble. But I still want to talk to you and yell at Otto later." He said putting up a webbing shield like Captain America so he would block their escape. He could not believe he found someone working for Otto. He was so confused right now.

"I can see that," Harley remarked as she looked the man over again. All the little wounds, wounds that would seriously impair the average person, seemed to simply be shrugged off by the man. Harley was also very durable, thanks to Poison Ivy's toxins when she nursed the jester back to health, but not like him.
"Wait, don't tell me you know Doc Ock!" A sly grin formed on her face before she broke into a fit of laughter, doubling over as she digested the hilarity of it all. Of course, the first fella she had a run-in with would also be a friend of her new employer's. Harley's laughter subsided after a moment, her hands raising in faux surrender. "Man, oh man. This is quite the coinkidink, isn't it? And I thought you were some goody-two-shoes trying to get in my way. My bad, for the explosion, by the way, had I known you were an associate of Doc's I would've handled things a little differently." Well, maybe.
Harley watched as Kaine seemed to grow a bit irritable. Something in her told her that his reaction wasn't totally unwarranted. If Joker had hidden other accomplices from her she would have been angry as well, then again, Harley was never really stable. "You and Doc have a truce? How come? I figured that you being a hero and all would kind of prevent any partnership." Harley asked curiously as her smile faltered. This was something she would ask Doc later.
"I can't leave without that money Bug-boy. I owe Doc, well, I owe Doc my life. I have to repay that debt." Her smile dropped as she clenched her fists. "If you think I'm gonna just--" Harley's eyes widened as the man seemed to take a complete one-eighty. So now this guy's helping me? Welp, can't look a gift horse in the mouth! Wasting no time she rushed back to the bag of money, slinging the strap over her shoulder.
The sirens brought Harley back to reality. "Aw crap. C'mon, follow me!" Harley had absolutely no plan for escape, she did after all get here by bus, but she would figure something out, she always did. She bolted through the back entrance and smirked. The crooks from before left their van in the parking lot. Using her elbow she smashed the driver-side window and unlocked the van from the inside. Plopping herself into the driver's seat she searched for the keys. Finding nothing she knelt down underneath the steering wheel and tore off an electrical panel. It was moments like these where she was thankful her father had been a car thief. With a spark, the car roared to life.
"AH-HA! GET IN, BUG-BOY!" She called to Kaine. Her foot slamming on the gas as she raced through the streets, the cops following close behind. "Alright, Bug-boy, got any ideas on where to go? I don't really know this city too well, and in all honesty, I didn't think we'd make it this far."
Post by Kaine Parker on May 27, 2021 20:19:34 GMT 1
“Yes, we met a couple of times already. I thought that tech looked familiar. I just could not figure out where.” Kaine said as they were under other rather unfortunate circumstances. Unlike Harley, he did not think it was too funny, for that matter. with the bomb explosion and the bank robbery, and they were both going to be looking like villains here. “I was a villain at one point, but I tried to change… Now not sure what I am.” He said. He admitted that part for the truth. Kaine looked over, seeing their opportunity to escape was there to present itself. "Yeah I'm sure you're sorry about the explosion you could've killed me!" Kaine said. "That's why I'm not happy." He said. Well, he was going to die eventually. Might as well make it worth his while.
He climbed out after she left the cops to deal with the mess with the other humans. He knew outside it would be swarming with them and ambulances to deal with any civilians. Not his problem anymore. Kaine was just frustrated. Today had not gone at all planned. and he had just been web-slinging through the city until he met the crazy jester lady. “It is not funny. I do not crack jokes or quips like my idiot brother.” Kaine said with a roll of his eyes.
“I am not bug boy! It is Scarlet Spider- Oh, whatever.” Kaine said with a moan as he got into the hotwired bus. He had thought he had seen it all being the time of being a supervillain and eventually switching sides. They were both going to have to talk this one over to Otto, and Kaine was still considering sabotaging something from Otto’s lab, by leaving a spider in it. The story for the truce is long. He could only think of one place. For the two to go, and that was towards the docks. His apartment was a big no, and he didn’t want the crazy lady running around there and smashing the place with more dynamite.
“It’s a long story between Otto and me with the truce,” Kaine said. “I am Spider-Man’s brother or clone for that matter. I suffer from cellular degeneration, where your body breaks down to nothing and Otto. I guess, pitied my creator’s work. So, we were trying to see if we could fix it.” Kainesaid. “Instead of calling me bug boy, just call me Kaine everyone does.” He said crossing his arms but flinched as he sat down in the seat and nearly lunged as he grasped onto the seat ahead of him. “I will lead you to the docks, but we will have to take a couple of detours to ditch the cops. A bus was not exactly hidden in plain sight.” Kaine said feeling his head.
“I don’t suppose that this place has a first aid kit, and my head has been killing me.” He said. The clone most public buses had one on the few that he had ridden on in the past. It was true he needed rest and his healing factor to kick in eventually, and this had been one unlucky ride for him so far. Kaine got the first aid kit before dressing the wounds in some gauze and spider webs. So he didn’t look like there was a huge mess on the way back. He was trying to keep an eye on things in the back. “You sure you know how to drive this thing? Even I don’t have a license." Kaine asked as he glanced over his shoulder. "Alright, take this first exit 28 North. It should take us downtown towards the docks the long way.” He said. He would've helped out more with Harley on slowing the police men down that were chasing the two. From what he saw. they were spread thin and only a few left, except he was in no condition to help out. The rest were dealing with the more important bank robbery.

Despite the general chaos of the moment, Harley still found herself engrossed in his words. It quickly became apparent that Doc Ock and Kaine had a slightly deeper history than she first thought. The jester cast a quick glance at the man as she sped through the middle of a busy intersection, just barely missing the pedestrians that crossed her path. With a jerk of the wheel, she barely managed to swerve out of the way, sticking her fist out the window she yelled profanities that could make a sailor blush at the bystanders. Jeez, ya see a bus gunnin' for ya and you just stay there?
"Looks like you and I got a lot in common!" Harley said with a bit of a laugh as she gazed into the rearview mirror, the bright red and blue lights from the cop cars glaring on the glass. Without warning, she took a sharp left. "Doc found me when I just got to this new world. I was in pretty bad shape, he helped me out. I would've died without him. I owe him a bunch! Kinda funny that Doc took pity on us and took us both in, eh?" The woman turned around a flashed Kaine a smile, the bus narrowly missing a cyclist on the side of the road.
"First-aid kit? Hold on, I bet there's one here somewhere." Absentmindedly, Harley let go of the wheel and scanned underneath the driver's seat, the bus swerving madly for a moment with no driver. Seemingly blissfully unaware of the danger, Harley's head popped back up, a small med-kit in her hands. "Here you go-AHHHHHHHHHH."
Gripping the steering wheel so hard her knuckles turned white and just barely managed to miss crashing into oncoming traffic. "I know how to drive! Just so happens I don't know how to drive well!" In truth, Harley hadn't driven in years. She had learned to drive, sure, but she had been sixteen. She had never really driven much in college, she could never really afford a car, and she never drove when she entered her life of crime, Joker always had goons drive for them.
Spotting exit 28, Harley turned into the exit. Casting a glance at the rearview mirrors she noticed that the cops had lost them or given up the chase. Harley breathed a loud sigh of relief. She hadn't had a car chase like that since she escaped Arkham with Poison Ivy.
"You okay back there? We should get to the docks in a few."

“We do?” Kaine asked a bit surprised. He had no idea who this girl was. She was a villain. Well, he had been one a long time ago as he had quit. And Otto had taken them both in on pity. What were the chances in on that? The Otto in his dimension wanted nothing to do with him or Spider-Man except maybe leave a ten-ton crater where New York had once stood. Yeah, that sounded like Otto. “I suppose you are right, and we both have been villains at one point or another… And Otto took us in.” Kaine admitted thinking about it as he held his head.
“To be honest, I don’t think I am 100% ok, I know when you blew the explosions up. I hit my head, and probably have a concussion which Doc should probably look at my head.” Kaine said. “I do have a healing factor, and minor cuts and bruises should heal in a couple of days,” Kaine said. He took the first aid kit as the webbing had helped in his arm injuries and on his face too. He probably was going to look like a mess once they reached Otto's lab. His eyes went wide as he heard Harley's scream, and she had every right to as he was going to scream back.
“L-Look out!!!! I did not even notice you let go of the wheel!” His eyes went wide as his spidey sense went off in his head. He had not even noticed that she had let go of the wheel to help him find a first aid kit which had been kind of her to do so. But he did not want to die today, not at the hands of some crazy lady jester. He almost had a heart attack as they narrowly missed the traffic there. He felt his heart pounding in his chest as it went a mile a minute rather literally.
“You’re going to give me a heart attack before we get to the docks. My spidey sense was screaming at us,” Kaine said. He gripped the bar on the bus that he had found and almost bent it in two under his strength. Kaine was a bit used to breaking things, shattering glasses and mugs at times. It was a bit of a pain as they had to keep more of them around his apartment. Some of the traffic honked their horns at them as they managed to lose the cops, which were better than nothing. Then it would be easy sailing once they got rid of the last few that were there. “I do not even have a license…” Kaine admitted wondering if he would be any good at driving. Well, he figured out how to fly planes and ships from SHIELD pretty easily. It probably not be harder than that.
Once he got his breath back from that little bit of excitement, he looked back towards the direction, “Take exit 15, and then 16 A. I went web-slinging this way once to get to the docks, and it was the only mode of transportation I could afford.” Kaine admitted as half the time he was broke. Suppose he could hitch a ride on the back of the bus. “This probably sounds weird, but you are easy to talk to now that we figured it out… Most people call me grumpy which is true…” He admitted. Add a thunderstorm cloud over his head and he would be perfect. Kaine finally saw it safe to take off his mask showing his true face as he showed the dirty blonde hair, similar to Peter's and brown eyes along with a freshly healed scar on his face. "Yeah, my face looks just as beat up as everywhere else too." He said with a sigh. But one bright thing came along with this, Harley was right they had ditched the cops.
"Makes sense you find me easy to talk to. Way back when, before I became the crazy-hot clown lady you see before you, I was a psychiatrist. Talking to people and listening to them was kinda my jam back then, ya know?" Harley finally relaxed, the bus going at a much smoother pace. "Even if you are a little grumpy!" She teased as she glanced at Kaine through the rearview mirror.
With a smooth turn the bus turned into Exit 15, the area around the bus seemed a bit familiar now. They must've been heading toward the same place Doc found her. Home away from home, sweet home away from home! Harley smiled a bit. Living in a lab was a bit different from what she was used to, but it beat abandoned funhouses by a mile. The place was warm, safe, clean. Everything a girl could ask for. Not to mention all the fun gadgets she now had access to. Speaking of which, she would have to reimburse Doc for the C4 when she could, but with the money in the duffle bag, she knew she could smooth things over with Doc.
"Yikes, I'll take care of that cut when we get back, might need to be stitched." Harley eyed the gash on his face warily. Though she had to admit that all the other injuries had healed rather nicely. "Then again, I don't look much better." Harley looked down at her body. She had gotten away without terrible injuries but she had definitely seen better days. Falling quiet she turned into the final exit.
The sight of the docks almost made her cry out in happiness. "Aaaaaand we are home! Heck yeah!" Parking the banged-up bus on the sand she flicked the switch to open the bus doors. Standing with a stretch she let out a sigh as her back popped in a satisfying way. Grabbing the money bag she tossed it over her shoulder.
"Let's head in. I'm sure Doc has seen our little escapade on the news and is dying to see us! And we can get some of your wounds taken care of Bug-boy!" Practically skipping off the bus Harley made her way toward the lair, kicking sand happily like a child.
I wonder how much money I got in here, I hope its enough to pay him back, hopefully he'll be happy with the haul.

Inside the lab unknowing what was transpiring outside Otto was working on fine-tuning the portal gun. He had the local news on a terminal behind him but it was mostly to provide background noise as he worked. Something about a rampaging bus, as well as a robbery and two perpetrators in costumes and explosions and being followed by the police. But he wasn’t really paying attention since the portal guns circuitry was far too delicate to divide his attention. As he sat at the workbench and soldered a few of the new connections, his upper left actuator screeched as it reached over and turned the volume up on the screen...
“Hmm?” Otto said as the other three arms were also now staring at the images in disbelief. “...What do you mean Harley and Kaine?...” Otto then looked up finally hearing what the broadcast was saying.
“WHAT!?” Standing up Otto knocked over a canister of hex nuts as he approached the terminal and switched on the main news network! The actuators sat there with their pincers agape, pretty much the same expression Otto had now as well as they watched a J3 news helicopter catch it all!
“I do not…..What are they doing?! Why is she blowing things up?! Where did she even acquire high explosives!?” He yelled as the four actuators screeched with the same feeling of panic! It then occurred to him as he looked over at the broken-into weapons locker as his shoulders dropped. “..Oh….” He then saw the bus escape but going by its direction it had to be coming towards..
“Oh no. Please do not tell me those two morons are driving it…” He then heard the sound of bus hydraulics hissing outside as he slammed a hand into his forehead! “…here…”
Outside the doors to the lab opened as four bright red lights glowed in the shadows of the doors, before shooting out towards both Kaine and Harley! The upper left arm grabbing Kaine by the collar as the upper right snagged Harley by her waist, pulling them both inside as the doors slammed shut! Kaine was now being held just above the ground as Harley now dangled upside down next to him as Octavius seethed in fury!
“Do either of you wish to tell me WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS!?!” He yelled! “Not only do you two cause havoc across Manhattan but you steal highly explosive material from me and then escape in the largest slowest vehicle on the road! And then park it outside of my SECRET lab! The whole point of a secret lab is that it remain a secret!”
“Do either of you two nimrods realize what you’ve done!?” Otto paused hearing a helicopter outside, the police tracked the giant bus to his lab! Looking back up at the two of them he growled.
“Well, luckily for you I came prepared for this inevitability…” He said as the lower right arm reached past them and pulled a giant lever on the wall near the blast doors. The outside of the lab suddenly shimmered as small holoprojectors lit up and masked the seemingly dilapidated building to look just like any other warehouse on the docks complete with a new identification number.
“You two can thank Quentin Beck for this idea. Of course, I did vastly improve on the concept.” Looking back up at them he folded his arms.
“Now..Explain!” Otto yelled anticipating he will not like this particular tale of their adventures..

“Aw man, stitches? My healing factor can probably take care of it. One thing handy of having spider powers.” Kaine said rubbing his face as the blood had dried a bit. “We are here? That is a relief.” Kaine said. “Yeah, I might need some of that therapy later. Ever deal with hating the family and brother type relationships?” Kaine asked knowing that he had still somewhat had a grudge on Peter from his dimension. He would have ever once believed that Harley had been a professional therapist. She certainly did not look like on.
Before he could even stumble off the bus from his next heart attack from Harley, he was so glad to be back at Otto’s lab. Well, scratch that, he wasn't anymore. Seeing how angry and annoyed Otto was. The hope that he had been cast aside on what might happen here. Otto was very annoyed, and it was written all over his face. Then he felt something touch his neck as he was in the air dangling a couple of feet. He was tired and at the hand of Otto’s mercy.
“Hey!” Kaine said as he felt Otto hang onto him on his collar. He almost felt like a scruffed cat at this point as he crossed his arms looking unamused as one hand held onto his mask before he lost it on the docks. “It’s a long story… I do not mean to be a tattle tail here, but Harley here blew up a building with me in it. It was a bank. I had tried to stop the robbers but gave up on that plan.” Kaine said. “After the explosion, it knocked me out, and I am 90% sure I have a concussion from what happened.” The clone added as he felt his head pounding from it.
“Then stole a bus, and we ditched the cops to get here. I do not think we are much of a worry, as long as Harley returns the money to the bank. That was just. I do not know very villainous?” Kaine said doing his best to explain things. From his point of voice, he did somewhat look like a bystander or trying to be a ‘hero’ before the whole plan got messed up when he found out that Harley was associated with Otto. He still did not feel the need to try and stand up for her just yet as they had only just met. Not to mention he had not completely forgiven her for the explosion and head, and mallet to his head.
“Ow!” he said. He felt his head as he felt a headache coming, and some of the worlds spun a bit. “Can you at least check my head? It is pounding so bad in my ears,” Kaine said. He was rubbing his head. He was certain he had suffered worse from this beforehand. If he did have a concussion, and hopefully, his healing factor could heal any broken bones or injuries, he had like the one on his face. They were now inside the lab as Otto’s cloaking device had worked. Kaine, no doubt, would get a ‘time out,’ as he was indeed in trouble, but he was not the one who stole money, blew up a bank, and stole a bus. However, he knew they were dead, and he had never seen Otto this mad before. And quite frankly never wanted to see it again. Well, it could have been worse from when he had been with Jackal no food for a month and locked away in his cell, and he was starving with that kind of treatment.
“You are not going to lock me up as the Jackal did? That's usually how my punishments went... And bar me from any privileges…” Kaine muttered, his voice barely spoken up enough that treatment was harsh alone, letting someone starve. However, the Jackal was the Jackal, and he did not care about Kaine one bit after he was rejected. That was Kaine's life locked up in a small bedroom, without much movement. That was how he had learned that the world had not been so kind to him.
