New York City, it was rare to be hanging this part of the downtown area as Kaine had been on a short walk at some point, and he was pretty sure he had gotten lost. It was dark out at 10:00 pm as he was wandering around the outskirts of the cemetery. It was dark out only could see a few inches ahead of you. With dimly lit street lights illuminating with faint light along the main part of the walkway. The cemetery was daunting and spooky. It was nuts to go in there just for some games or causing trouble.
The graves stones of many names had dated from the 1800s. They were just names scrawled on tombstones, not a single one of them meant anything to Kaine. Yet, he could not help but feel a little bit sorry. It was nuts alone to go into the cemetery with no purpose at all. He was not sure why he was drawn here, but he felt like something was trying to tell him to investigate. It was true Kaine had never believed in ghosts, but Kitty’s powers of phasing through walls had been enough to shock him from their first events. He had not seen her since the field trip. At Batman’s Batcave, and wondered how they were doing. The one he did not care for was Jimmy.
What he disliked, even more, was that stubborn attitude reminded him of well him.
It had been a week since Kaine had been freed by Otto's lab-like prison, after seeing his vitals were fine. After recovering. He had not felt any side effects as far as he could tell. His cellular degeneration was gone at last, and no more agony. Kaine knew that he would have a whole lot better chance at life. There was no longer a chance of trying to suffer or feel like he was dying. His face was no longer disfigured in the face anymore. It just left behind with a semi healed scar. The scar had healed, but not gone away as he had figured. His vision had been no better.
Kaine opened up the gate of the cemetery many faces of people he did not know written on the stones that walked past him. He had his Scarlet Spider suit underneath his shirt in case he had to leap into action. He was not a part of any team, not just yet. He seemed reluctant to join any of them, and he remembered his past. No one would want a monster. There was a little bit of fog looming in as the young man thought he saw something glowing in the distance of the cemetery.
“What is that?” He asked himself as he got a better look. “Great, just great, it is a mind shard.” He said. The shard was perched very carefully, sitting on top of a mausoleum, as he knew he was not about to go retrieve it. Kaine had enough trouble in the Jungle, “Nope. Nope. One shard was enough. I am not getting another one. It is someone else's problem." Kaine grumbled crossing his arms.

Kaine was not the only one drawn to the cemetery.
In fact, a familiar face was equally drawn to the area by the unusual scent as well as a strange gut feeling that told him something was wrong, very wrong. Jimmy had been patrolling the city when the feeling had struck, making him have an uneasy feeling that he could not ignore. It was no danger sense of course, just pure intuition and gut instinct. He had been through hell and back enough to know when something was off and didn't need a sixth sense to know that.
So, here he was a few minutes later. After sniffing around to make sure no security was roaming around or other individuals were lurking, he easily volted himself over the spiked metal fencing and into the cemetery, the scent of fresh cut grass, dirty, and musty stone filling his nostrils the moment he landed. And immediately goose bumps and a cold chill ran up his body. He hated places like this, it was creepy and unsettling for even him. 'Just follow your instinct and get out Jimmy.' He told himself, sniffing the air to distinguish the smells before he began following the trail where he came across quite the massive mausoleum. Was it here? The scent was strong in the area, even with a fog rolling in, which indicated it was here. Couldn't hurt to look for a bit before he would go on his way.
Scaling the stone structure, he carefully moved in a crouch towards the ever-growing strong scent which was closer to the front. But soon another scent followed, this one irritatingly familiar. Just his luck...
Moving to the edge, Jimmy's masked face soon peered over the roof, scoffing as he heard Kaine go on about not another stone. "What are you whining about now Parker? Afraid of a little stone from space?" He mused and partially teased, not being too familiar with the Infinity Stones himself so thought little of seeing the stone wedged into the building. "Didn't think the spiders were big chickens from other universes." He sneered a bit, reaching down and giving the stone a few rough tugs to get it free of the structure, carefully holding it in his hand. "See? Wasn't so hard now was it."
Yet, it was clear Jimmy knew not of the power he held in his hands, much less the consequences he was unleashing...
“Ok just like, be careful with that okay!” A female voice was heard behind the two boys. Kitty was now in her X-Men uniform, well..sort of her X-Men uniform. More like workout clothes with an X-Men emblem she had embroidered and sewn onto it. She..she left her real clothes in her other dimension. With her hair tired back she wore a blue halter top, jobbing tights and running shoes as she watched Jimmy scale the building as she stood next to Kaine. She already didn’t like being here. Cemeteries were always creepy no matter the world, she always felt like she was being watched or it was haunted or something. She’s seen Night of the Living Dead twice she knows how this always goes…the girl is always the last to die.
But they did pick up a signal from one of the shards and they had to make sure it didn’t land in the hands of someone innocent, or maybe not so innocent…
“Professor X told us about those stones in history class. They are some sort of really really powerful elemental like, things! And I guess they are older than time and everyone was after them and I guess if you touch it, you go nu-why are you touching it?!” Kitty yelled up at him!
“Jimmmmmy! You don’t go grabbing glowing rocks when you don’t know what the glowing rocks do! What if it blows your arm off!” Kitty said clutching her hands in front of her!
“Honestly! What is with guys with touching potentially dangerous stuff! They put the whole stones in cubes and stuff for a reason! Eeee!” Kitty winced a little as Jimmy picked up the shard and closed her eyes expecting the worse! When nothing happened however, she peeked an eye open and let out a breath of relief. “Whew…”
“Okay well that wasn’t so bad. So now what do we do with it?” She asked looking from one boy to another.

“Chicken? Who are you calling a chicken!” Kaine yelled as he saw that Jimmy had arrived. He remembered well, and their last fight had not gone well at all as he was grateful that Kitty had not been there. Flooded a street, got slashed a bunch of times, and almost drowned… Er yeah, let us not try to repeat that tonight. He crossed his arms as he saw that Jimmy had already touched it. The annoyance was there. “Sheesh, do you listen to anyone?” He asked. He crossed his arms, and he was looking unamused as the other mutant grabbed onto it. “You should listen to Kitty at least. Those shards ARE dangerous.” Kaine pointed out having enough experience with them already. “You have heard about these shards? I have been trying to collect them for Madame Webb. They all seem to be connected to something much bigger.” Kaine said as he still had the space shard from earlier in his backpack.
“Just shut up already?” Kaine asked as he was annoyed at Jimmy “I will touch it if it makes you happy… Nothing bad has happened yet.” Kaine said as he climbed up the mausoleum, with ease knowing they were standing on top of someone’s grave. He grasped a part of the shard feeling a powerful source of energy go off. His spidey sense hadn’t gone off this bad in a long time. “Gah!” He exclaimed as he felt a huge pulse of power come off of it as it knocked him to the ground a searing headache came from it as Kaine felt like he was going to blackout. He closed his eyes for a few minutes before waking up again the pounding, eventually faded to a dull headache.
He felt his hands touch the dirt, and his mind felt unwell. Not that it had been right, to begin with. “Jimmy? Kitty?” He asked.
‘Stay calm, stay calm. Freaking out is only going to make it worse.’ Kaine said as he realized he was projecting his thoughts a short while later. ‘Too late, I already freaked out.’
‘Now, they will all know I lack confidence in myself, especially since I fought Wolf Spider. I am no good. Never was, and never will. The clone who was beaten up time and time again of Spider-Man is worthless. But more so less annoying than Jimmy is.’
“Darn it, stop!” He said. Kaine was holding his head as his head was pounding. “I am so sorry you should not have heard those thoughts at all. I guess I gained telepathic powers. Something I am not used to.” If this is how telepathy felt towards other superheroes who used it. He did not like the thought one bit. He just wanted to be boring Kaine with boring spider powers. Kaine felt embarrassed now as his face turned bright red. He spilled the beans on himself being a clone and one secret he had not told anyone except maybe Otto. The clone's instincts told him to run or flee the area. However he hid it as best as he could, and fleeing made him even feel more like a coward. So he just stood their, frozen.

Most times, Jimmy probably would have made an exception to what Kitty was saying. She was usually his conscience, the voice of reason between the two, but he also had to remind himself this was not his world's Kitty. She was far more cautious, kinder at heart and spirit, not as serious. But, he hadn't gotten anywhere being cautious or listening to everyone that told him something was stupid to do, including something powerful.
"While your concern is noted Kitty, leaving it here isn't exactly the better option either. Not with the freaks coming out of those portals that aren't as nice as we are." Jimmy pointed out in a far calmer, gentler tone than he had spoken with Kaine. He likely would annoy the spider, but he honestly did not care. Kaine was no friend to him, not right now after their fight. More so the tone the spider had used with him as if he had purposely wanted to remain bonded to the symbiote. "I didn't get this far in life with being overly cautious." He told her in a more direct tone, indicating he wasn't entirely someone to take that sort of route. Perhaps only further tying to how much he was like Logan, a man of action and doing things proactively rather than reactive. If left there, and if what Kitty and Kaine said was true, it was best the shard wasn't left there, unchecked and open for any joe shrmoe to come off the street and find it.
"Hey! Back off bug boy!" But it was too late, Kaine was already reaching for the shard, barely touching the shard before it gave off a powerful surge of energy between them.
Howling in pain as purple energy surged up his arm like veins to his mind, he was immediately bombarded by Kaine's insecurities while Jimmy's memories were projected towards the two against his will...
"Jimmy could be seen briefly wrestling with some rough looking guys in a diner, his eyes often flashing towards two other young boys most might recognize as Bobby Drake and Johnny Storm, and briefly flashing to a rather familiar brunette...
Next he was panting as he rushed through what seemed a facility, heart pounding in his ears as he tore through some guards and busting through the nearest exit...Then there they were, massive Sentinels coming down on the camp-like prison for mutants, weapons ready...
He could be seen arguing with a red head, snarling at her for some slight, betrayal evident in his emotions...
Next came the biting chill of the Canadian Rockies, claws out and snarling as he attacked what appeared to be younger versions of the X-Men. He mistook them for someone else, lackies under some Miss Sinister...'
Gasping as he finally regained control, Jimmy quickly shoved the Mind Stone shard into one of the pouches on his belt, the energy surge passing on and leaving him a panting mess on the ground. What had just happened? Why had he projected such memories towards the two? What had the stone done to him? "P-point taken." He finally conceded in regards towards their warnings with the stone.

“I didn’t say leave it here but grabbing it without knowing what it does is just as bad!” Kaine was suddenly hit by something as he fell! Letting out a gasp she rushed to help him, it was then she heard some sort of high-pitched noise! At first, she thought I was an insect or a bug, but the noise soon changed pitch and became voices? But not just any voice it was ..Kaines?
Looking over at Kaine she could see the words were watching his expression. What was this!? How can she hear him when he's not even talking?! Letting his arm go Kitty took a few steps back covering her ears but it wasn’t helping, the voice…was in her head?!
“What is going on?!” Hearing Jimmy scream she looked over at him as her eyes began to glow as she saw what Jimmy was seeing. But instead of voices like with Kaine, she saw images flashing in her mind almost like memories, but they weren’t hers! Was that Bobby and Johnny? Wait… Kitty paused seeing someone amid the cascade of memories. Was that…her?
Wincing as the scene switched to somewhere completely different. She felt pain in her head, it was like being on a roller coaster going up and down giant hills and loops, oh she was going to hurl! It was as if she was seeing things through his eyes. Was that Jimmy…killing people? The sight of the blood was almost too much as Kitty closed her eyes. Hearing something familiar she suddenly looked up seeing the boot of a giant Sentinel coming down on her as she screamed and backed up before falling through the wall of a nearby mausoleum and vanished!
The screaming stopped from inside the small stone building as Kitty sat in the corner hugging her knees.. unsure of what she just saw.

“STOP!” Kaine called out as the panic and sights of seeing what was going on. The command of his voice finally stopped the pain in his head ebbed away. He felt the annoyance of Jimmy’s thoughts as he had been so many thoughts and emotions going through his head. Sweat bed around his face as he was already giving out how insecure he was and didn’t even feel like a superhero anymore. No, he knew it now. He was an antihero. A shadow of Spider-Man. A clone. An imperfect son.
Once it had been out, he felt himself spinning and being dizzy at the same time he saw Kitty panicking too as the emotions and ideas were about to let this spin out of control. “I said STOPPP!” he said this time it had done it. The command went out as his emotions finally stopped and twirled to a halt. Everything went dark as he found himself back into the territory of the cemetery. Kaine regretted everything. Coming out here tonight. Touching the stone had been a mistake. Kitty was right. Not to mention he saw how terrified Kitty was as the memories from Jimmy were projecting tonight. He had had enough.
Sweat was dripping off his face as he rubbed it on his head. To try to get the sweat off his body. He felt like he had a massive fever as his body was reacting towards the mind stone. Kaine never wanted to touch that stone ever again as he promised that part. Go ahead and throw it out in the bay for all he cared.
“I’m sorry you guys you had to see that. I’ve been insecure for a very long time… And Jimmy, your memories and thoughts aren’t all that different from mine… Maybe we need to stop fighting… Just temporarily.” He said. Kaine was trying to stand as he put his hand on a cold stone from one of the statues. “I’ve died one time, or another this should be me…” He said referring, to his time of being the Tarantula and the events before it. It hit him like a ton of bricks. "I’m so sorry. I am sure I caused some of the trouble tonight. I don’t want that stupid stone, and it is more trouble than it is worth.” He apologized. Kaine put his head on the cold stone. It felt good to do so, as his odd fever-like reaction was starting to disappear.

Jimmy flinched when he heard Kitty scream. He hated that sound, the sound of someone he cared for becoming frightened by his own memories, of part the person he was. No...That was why he never told her, why he never shared what really happened in his dimension. The memories cascaded from his mind before he could stop them, or even knew how. Even Kaine’s yelling took time to register before he realized he was trying to break through the Mind stone’s effects which still took a toll on them both perhaps more than Kitty.
Resting his back against the building he had climbed, he allowed himself to slowly slide down to the ground as he worked to gather himself.
It has been sometime since such a thing had happened, that someone or something could break his telepathic defenses. Usually it took a powerful telepath to do so, and even then there was always a struggle. What was this stone? How could something be so powerful? His gaze fell to his belt, eyeing the pouch he held the stone in to avoid touching it, anyone touching it at all. Yea, he was keeping that in his possession, away from the wrong hands if he could. “I don’t think we’d have the strength or mentality to fight even if we wanted to Parker.” Jimmy finally acknowledged, lifting his gaze towards the night sky, feeling how shaky he truly was in that moment as his thoughts turned to his own physical and mental health. It would take a little bit to fully shake off the effects, even realizing his left arm seemed scorched and burned, hissing as the searing pain began to register more and quickly tucking it closer to his side as some of the charred flesh fell away. But just as quickly as it fell away, new tendons, muscle, and skin began to appear, his healing factor mending what had been damaged.
No doubt that had been from the surge of energy.
“Let’s just....leave what happened alone for now. Something tells me we will need to get our thoughts in order.” His blue eyes soon turned towards where he had seen Kitty stumble through. She probably thought him a monster now, a killer with a facade. But, he simply was a warrior, a survivor of a dimension that shaped who and what he was. As much as his conscience told him not to go, as well as snide commentary from Poison for being an idiot, he slowly pushed himself to his hands and knees, crawling towards the mausoleum before settling on the nearest corner. He wanted to say something then and there, find words to explain himself but could not seem to open his mouth, other than turning away with shame.
