He had been groggy for the past few hours, sleeping in Otto’s lab on and off in the recovery room. On occasions, city lights had danced through the windows, with the cars still honking obnoxiously. Kaine had been out for a few days. All he had done, was eat and sleep. He hadn’t even had a chance to exercise or any of that, for that matter. He was growing restless. He had no idea what time it was or what day it was for that point. Getting a good look out the window, Kaine could see that the sun was already set, and it must’ve been around 8 pm. He felt his stomach rumbling as he hadn’t eaten since that morning. Kaine hadn’t even remembered what day it was for that matter.
He took a look in the mirror, and there was another fancy scar on his face. As he tried to stand, he wobbled a bit as he felt about normal. Was this what it was like? Not to feel any pain or any suffering from scars and your fingertips burning from it? The only two who had ever shown him some hope were Otto and Peter, for that matter. He got his bearings before finding leftover food in the refrigerator. He still questioned why Otto had food in here and a battery for that matter. “I don’t think he’ll mind me eating some of this.” He said taking some food that looked like a day or two old pieces of pizza before nuking it in the microwave. It didn’t take long before it finished before he heard it beep off as he scarfed it down and then another. “Be nice not to be treated like a test subject anymore,” Kaine said.
He thought he heard some nearby noise in one of the lab rooms wondering if it was Otto or someone else. He knew the lab by the docks was pretty large. But he had no idea Otto had allowed guests for that matter. He saw all kinds of machines and inventions as he had no idea or what he did or what they had to do for that matter.
“Looks complicated, and Otto will say: “Don’t Touch web head, and they are not toys, nor are they meant for your eyes, they are too sophisticated for your tiny, impudent, and unimpressive for your spider brain. For my ego is way too big for my actuators. If you so much breath or even put fingerprints on it, I will have to start from scratch again.”Kaine said. Doing his best Otto an impression using some webbing to act like his actuators. And also using big words. He also faked goggles out of webbing too pushing them up his nose. He more so portrayed Otto lecturing a student and somewhat nerdy impression. Though Kaine meant well with the teasing, he had been grateful for the repair of his cellular degeneration. He wanted to call him a friend after what fun adventures they had been through recently had been bad enough on his body. “Hello? Anyone here!?” Kaine called out, echoing his voice down the hallway. “I’m bored out of my mind.” He spoke. “Might as well become a spider couch potato,” Kaine said wondering if he was alone here or Otto had gone out. And he wasn’t even allowed to sneak out for that matter. With Kaine now at ease with himself other parts of his personality besides being withdrawn and grumpy self could come out. Like Peter's humor for that matter. He still refused to do the quips.

It had been sometime since she had spent more than a few hours in the labs Otto had set up for himself. Though it was mostly due to her own discomfort of laboratories and the thought of any scientific anything making her somewhat anxious. It brought back too many bad memories and bad feelings, especially towards her mother who had made her another of the Wakers. What her intent had been was unknown, but as Scientist Surpreme her mother seemed to have welcomed her with open arms and intended for her to be like royalty. Not exactly her idea of a good time...
But, neither could Carmilla neglect the alliance and promise she had made to join the Sinister Six. It was in her nature to honor the obligations she made, so she was there to at least be of presence, help, or carry out some mission if Otto needed it.
“Hmm, could use more training with this suit, better sync it to my mental processes. Still feels a bit off from time to time.” She spoke to herself, lifting her high-tech gauntlet which projected her Scorpion battle suit as a hologram from a screen connected to her SHEILD standard technology. At the present she didn’t wear said battle suit, simply donning her more simple attire with her mask down since she saw no need for it. Besides, she needed to do some maintenance on the battle suit before she took it back out just to ensure it was in top shape for future endeavors and missions. Wouldn’t exactly help if it went malfunctioning due to being out of sync.
Though she paused as someone called out, possibly hearing her foot steps as she was heading towards the training simulation room. It sounded male in tone, but not one she recognized and causing her to lower her arm as she followed the sound of someone talking to themselves, turning the corner to find Kaine himself. “Well, Otto never mentioned he brought someone else onto the team.” She commented, raising a brow quizzically towards the man as she eyed him up and down, by habit mentally analyzing his physical potential and what threat he could pose if he proved hostile. ‘Come on Carm, he probably isn’t going to attack randomly otherwise he wouldn’t be here.’ She reminded herself. “Seeming as you’re wandering around freely and eating from the kitchen without octo-bots trying to slice you to ribbons I can at least say it’s safe to assume you’re an ally.” She observed as she approached a bit slowly, holding out her non-stinger hand towards Kaine in greeting, “Names Carmilla, but you can also call me Scorpion if you prefer.” She introduced herself, not realizing her totemic nature may very well set off Kaine’s spider senses.
Realistically, scorpions and spiders were both arachnids but always mortal enemies.

The clone was busy looking around the lab. Otto had only ever let him see the main area and the recovery room. So, if he was going to stay here for a little bit. Kaine might as well take the opportunity to explore. He looked at overseeing another woman as she was in the training room and testing out new equipment. At first, he prepared himself for his spidey sense to go off. But it didn’t this time.
He was a little bit stunned. But as far as he was concerned, he knew that he was safe in the lab room as long as he didn’t stir up trouble. Kaine was bored looking for something to do. However, he knew if he pushed himself too hard, and he was bound to ruin all the DNA and hard work that Otto had done to him. His body was trying to heal. It was kind of like damaging an injury and making it a lot worse on the second try.
…But a little bit of training didn’t hurt, right?
“Uh? Oh no, I’m not here on the team. I’m here for another reason.” The young man explained as he looked over towards Carmilla. “Otto was trying to repair my cellular degeneration. It’s a long story. I'm a clone of Spider-Man to make it a simple and short one.” He said not exactly wanting to mention that he might become a pile of dust later. That wouldn’t have sounded like a great story at all in his book.
“It’s nice to meet you Carmilla, and I was looking around the lab. I haven’t seen most of the lab before except the main area and the recovery room. My name is Scarlet Spider, but everyone calls me Kaine.” He said as he went over to shake Carmilla’s hand he felt his spidey sense go off there. It had been like the compass feeling earlier when he had found Cindi and the other spiders. This one was strong, he felt it, as his vision swayed a bit and a feeling of a minor headache in the back of his head. What an odd sensation. “Woah… Sorry for staring… When we connected, my spidey sense went off, and usually, it does in a bad way. However, this one was for something else.” He said, the odd sensation finally subsided.
“I know Otto is probably going to yell at me, but I’ve been bored doing nothing but sleep. I can go get my costume, and we could train in the training room. A spider and a scorpion training session sound like exciting. I think if we don't tell him this will between you and I.” Kaine offered, hoping that Carmilla might accept the idea of going off onto a training session. He just had to be more careful than usual. Give himself time to get used to the newly healed body. Usually, in the wild spiders, and scorpions were almost enemies. But here, it would’ve been neutral training grounds as he hoped. Apart from him realized he was dealing with an enemy at some point. Otto was an enemy too. Kaine realized he had met some of the strangest people and made some of the strangest friends.

A clone of Spider-Man? Carmilla wondered if this was the same Scarlet Spider she had heard about who was part of the Secret Warriors she had heard about. Given how SHIELD seemed to keep track and tabs on everyone, it wasn’t like such rosters were kept under strict raps. Still, she held back from inquiring about such a thing since it could be awkward, and for the fact she didn’t feel like explaining how she knew who he was teamed up with in the past.
And given the odd predicaments as a of late, it could be a completely different version of Scarlet Spider.
“That’s a surprise. But, I suppose I’m no stranger to having genetics messed with.” Though Carmilla didn’t seem inclined to exactly elaborate on what she meant. There was no point to give information about herself compared to Kaine who seemed comfortable enough to tell her what he was. He didn’t have to, but she commended him for having such trust to do so. “But yea, I tend to avoid Otto’s labs. He gets particular about people touching or being near his equipment, and I’m personally not a fan of them.” There was both amusement and unease in Carmilla’s voice, the former towards how crabby Octavius could get when his stuff was messed with and the unease seeming to stem from something she was not telling Kaine. Yet, the unease quickly faded as she noticed Kaine seemed to act strangely.
By reflex she firmly grabbed his shoulder, “Kaine? What’s wrong?” How did he expect to train if he was swaying everywhere? But he soon explained it seemed to be a result of his spider sense going off, making her raise a brow for a moment. “It could be from my “stinger”, I never can exactly turn it off completely.” Carmilla lifted her left hand, showing the hi-tech gauntlet in sight and seemed to be the only gadget she had for her standard attire, a containment glass visible on top where the back of her hand was which was presently glowing green and the inside swirling slowly with gaseous thallium that had been absorbed. “I advise not getting too close since I can’t always control it.” The green haired woman warned ahead of time, seeming unaware that it wasn’t her powers that had triggered this event but her own totemic nature.
Still, she felt she could humor Kaine. He didn’t seem in too bad of shape in this moment, but her certainly seemed he wasn’t fully recovered from his surgery or treatment at the moment. “How about some light training? Just so we don’t push you too hard or too fast right from the get-go. Test and see if you can do light work first before pushing for something more intense.” She suggested.

“Yeah, he usually tells me don’t touch anything. And I try to listen. I suppose looking isn’t that bad unless he doesn’t want me to breath on it.” Kaine admitted as he looked over to Carmilla. He was feeling better than touch had just been something else. He had never felt it before, nor did he want to again. His spidey sense made him feel particularly dizzy amount the strength that was coming from Carmilla’s direction. He hadn’t felt that feeling before.
“I think it was just pointing out that you are extremely strong, and my spidey sense made me feel dizzy. Almost like I could fall over like that,” Kaine explained. As he managed to hang on as she helped him a bit. He was a bit surprised. Usually, spiders and scorpions don’t get along in the wild. But this was different, they were only partial creatures, and some of Carmilla’s strength had interested him quite a bit. “You must be quite strong to set it off like that,” Kaine observed. He knew normally, it had been set off by other spiders, as he detected their energy. He had heard all kinds of stories about Spider totems. Never having once realized he might be one himself as he was related to Peter. He'd just rather be plain old boring spider-powered Kaine, for that matter.
“Your stinger? That’s a pretty strong reason, however, I don’t think it is completely the cause of why it went off. It seemed when I shook your hand. Like all of you set it off. I know it is hard to explain.” Kaine said as he had hoped it made sense. Yes, the weapon itself was looking dangerous, and he knew better than to mess with it. He had wondered what else Otto had been doing in his spare time besides recruiting others like Carmilla and Harley. They were both villains, and he had been one at one point too.
“Yes, I agree, and light training might be best for now. I know I don’t want Otto mad at me for ruining the work he did on my body. Cellular degeneration isn’t fun, and I wouldn’t wish it on anybody.” Kaine said as he had returned. He was wearing his Scarlet Spider suit. The only thing left was his mask. Kaine knew that this might be interesting. “So, what do you want to do while training? I already tested out my powers with Otto a few times, and he was making sure everything was alright. We could try and see how accurate my spidey sense is. And we could both try out our stingers, mine appear to be made out of bone.” He offered or if Carmilla had any ideas on what they could do. Flinging deadly objects at Kaine might not be the best idea unless you wanted Otto to yell at him later. Kaine brought his out as they came from his wrists one foot long stingers that look deadly.

“You should know Otto by now, he is very particular about his work and how his lab is set up. I would advise we steer clear of testing his patience.” Carmilla agreed as she headed towards the training room with Kaine, more than glad to stay away from the labs. The further the better in her opinion, no offense to the scientist himself of course.
Though she raised a brow towards Kaine as he indicated it may very well not be her stinger that set it off, but her as a whole. It reminded her of what the Kravenoffs had told her when they contacted her before she had wound up here. They had mentioned she had a “totemic connection” with the name of Scorpion as well as the suit, a power perhaps greater than she was realizing. She had never understood such words, always skeptical of mysticism. But, she hadn’t been recruited to SHIELD for nothing, guessing his danger sense had gone off due to her somewhat battle-ready demeanor. “I don’t know if you’re about to go down that same “totemic” mysticism nonsense, but I doubt it’s that. May just be my intent since I am usually always at the ready for danger or to react.” She surmised, trying to go the more logical route before she considered anything outside the realm of realism. Besides, there was plenty other possible explanations to why one would set off a danger sense of any kind.
Reaching up, Carmilla types in the code on the keypad to open the training room, stepping inside the moment the door opened. The room itself was a bit small in scale and basic, but it would do well enough for what they were going for. “Yours are bone, mine is a deadly, poisonous touch Kaine.” She chuckled softly, gently tapping the gauntlet, “This little gauntlet, it helps keep my poison output in check, especially the gas I release when I use it. I advise I don’t use it in this session since it was powerful enough to cause Venom pain, and I killed a piece of the symbiote that bonded to me in minutes.” She advised, giving the real reason she was warning him. “Even your healing factor would take hours to expel my poison if I didn’t kill you first.” Not that she intended to of course.
“And we can do some hand-to-hand. Since my poison isn’t a problem right now, we will be fine to go through some movements.” She smiled before lifting her face mask that covered the lower half of her face. “Nothing strenuous, just slow back and forth to see how you do. If you’re feeling up for it, we’ll progress to more intense forms.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right about that, and we can go into the training room,” Kaine said. He knew that Carmilla was wise for saying that. If he so laid a hand on it or even breathed on it. They were going to be in trouble. Kaine had already seen the bad side of Otto when he was angry and would rather not see it again. Still, some of the inventions were pretty impressive. If Kaine had tried hard enough, and he might be able to put Peter’s memory to use to work on things, but he doubted he’d be able to do any bit of it. Peter’s memories came to him so oddly or infrequently that it was still a mystery how they came about.
“Totems? I don’t know much about them my self. But they must be pretty powerful.” Kaine said knowing deep down he might’ve been one. If peter had been one or at least had rejected it, and who was to say his template might be? Is spidey sense had reacted so oddly to Carmilla it made him sway a bit and feel nauseous. But it had luckily passed.
“I agree that doesn’t sound good at all. Otto had said that Warren had tapped into some of Spider-Man’s powers when he created me making me somewhat different as Peter doesn’t even have stingers or even talk to spiders.” Kaine said knowing most people were afraid of spiders while Kaine found them fascinating. To the tarantula, wolf Spider, or even the small house spider, there were many species of them as Miles had spliced his DNA to try and bring out different powers. Seeing that they were comparing stingers, and he brought his out feeling the old bone that had been there. Sometimes they snapped off, but they grew relatively fast, back into place. The material was hard enough to cut through pieces of metal if he focused his strength on it and leave slashes all over his enemies. “My healing factor would have a hard time. I know Peter said his healing factor isn’t like Wolverine’s, but I’ve survived being drugged many times.”Kaine admitted knowing that was painful and took time.
“Yes, I think that is the best idea now,” Kaine said as he headed into the training room seeing that they were able to freely. Kaine could position himself where he pleased. Once they were ready for it, “Alright, we can start now.” He said, not announcing his first move as he brought forward a powerful roundhouse-like kick towards Carmilla’s direction. It felt good, moving like this. No more pain, and no more suffering from the nerve damage and body starting to fall apart. “It feels great to move without any pain. My nerves were on fire from head toe.” Kaine said, glad to have the cellular degeneration out of his body.

Carmilla couldn’t help but giving Kaine a look. He knew about totems as well? What exactly were animal totems everyone kept going on about? She herself had never really dwelled deep into that realm of trying to understand such things, much less the meaning of a “connection”. Did that mean she embodied a god or something? Some important being? “Heck if I know. I think it’s just a load of crap personally.” She spoke with a shrug, “Then again, I’ve always been skeptical of that godly connection hoohaw.” She told him as they entered the training room.
“At least yours is a physical aspect. Mine can cause a group of men to fall in seconds Kaine. So for your safety, it’s best we keep the stingers out of this fight.” The young woman’s tone was serious, showing she did not wish to hurt the clone in any such manner. This was suppose to be a friendly battle, not sending Kaine back to the medical room or getting stabbed by those sharp bones.
Carmilla took a fighting stance across from Kaine, having to remind herself that he would still be an opponent to watch. Though her physiology was enhanced, she was no where near as fast as a spider individual such as Kaine. So, she would have to play it smart since she had a sneaking suspicion their fight wouldn’t remain slow for long. Immediately her sparring partner made the first move, going for a roundhouse kick that caused her to raise her arm to block it, grunting from the impact before using her opposite fist to go in for an upper cut, “I can imagine so.”

“All I know is in my dimension a select few, granted some interesting set of powers…” Kaine admitted. “I’d just be glad about having spider powers and leave it at that,” Kaine admitted with a soft shrug as he knew that he wasn’t one of those totems as far as he was aware of. It would be too complicated. Kaine didn’t want all that power. He had already been through enough as far as he was concerned. Kaine glad to have a chance coming for them to train while they were in Otto’s lab. Nothing was going on, and for the most part, sometimes downtime was good. But the quietness had made him itch for something. Anything to keep his mind busy off the boredom.
“Yeah, you’re right, and we can keep the stingers away. Mine mostly can hack and slash away at someone. If I try hard enough, it can break other things with them. And they’ve been known to fall off too.” Kaine explained with a soft nod towards Carmilla with that one. They were getting ready to deliver the first set of blows. Kaine saw Carmilla’s move as his spidey sense told him to dodge, and even with his injured eye, it seemed to make up for it somewhat a blind spot.
“So, what are you up to, Carmilla? I only saw you here for a short period, so you must be new. I know Harley, and I have been here for a while now.” Kaine said as he figured he might as well do some small talk here. Since he had pretty much told her his part on Otto trying to fix his cellular degeneration. That was not a problem anymore, and he quickly felt other parts of his personality starting to come out. No dark and gloomy cloud, hanging over him. It had hit him in the blind spot, making him take a few steps back as he shook himself. He would not fall for that again as his eyesight had always been bad. “Oof, That was a good one. You hit me in the blind spot...I can't see anything on the right side.” He said with a soft nod kicking himself for not listening to his spidey sense even in Otto’s lab. This next time he threw a punch at Carmilla's waistline. However, he was holding his whole strength, knowing he could seriously do some damage and bruises.

“Before I fell through here, the Kravinoffs hired me for a job to retrieve the original Scorpion’s battle suit, the one belonging to Mac Gargan. I never asked why, but they told me that I would find it because of a totemic connection.” Carmilla explained as they prepped for their sparring session. “I never understood what they meant, and quite frankly I’m not particularly interested. If you have it, maybe you will come to understand it better than I ever will.” At least Kaine seemed to have an idea of what she was talking about, but it seemed it was more a spider thing which she had no argument over.
With the matter of their stingers settled, their training session soon began. Her uppercut made contact shockingly, maybe not doing much damage all things considered. But she still felt the dense musculature and skin, feeling the reverberation through her arm that told her just what she was up against. Not that it deterred her. If she could face Venom, she could face this man before her as well.
Before she could answer Kaine, he was already making his next move causing her to grit her teeth as she stumbled but quickly caught herself. “Not bad with holding back.” She acknowledged, shaking off the pain and charging towards him, leaping to aim an air kick towards him. “As for what I do, I tend to do my own thing Kaine. I agreed to work with Otto, so I keep to our contract but in return I still give out my services towards others as a mercenary. You only make so much serving one villain. I’ve made some side jobs and have another part-time contract in the works.” She did wonder what Scarecrow would have her doing anyway. She hadn’t heard from the man in sometime since they last met, so she was still on standby in regards to that. Nevertheless, she could be patient on the matter. Especially since he did say it might take time.
“Also, you really shouldn’t tell someone what your blind spot is Kaine, just means you give me more leverage to use.”
