Kaine had blacked out. He had no idea for how long or for how much it had tried on him. At least five minutes? Five hours? It was a mystery even to him as his body left a huge crack in the pavement. The taste of metallic blood in his mouth. He wiped some off his face behind the mask. He remembered that he was supposed to call Otto with a newly fitted communication set in his mask incase he needed him that they had been working on. For all his life, he knew what it was like to be a monster. However, this was something serious. Someone he had no idea who it was had been chasing him he had felt that the entire time he had been gone from Otto’s lab. He knew what it was like to chase someone, he had done it to Ben Riley, his entire life, and now it was going to haunt him later for it.
The clone staggered back to his feet, getting back to his bearings for a bit. His head spun, and his body felt like it was on fire. Kaine had no idea what time it was, but it had been dark out. So it was probably a couple of hours. He saw nothing but blackness in his mind as his body tried to repair the damage of falling off a building an extremely high skyscraper had been the cause of his fall as someone threw him off of it. “Easy now, time to get up.” He said, but his body quivered a bit. The person probably felt like he was dead or thought he was, for that matter. Kaine’s resistance was strong.
“Show yourself! You monster! I know what it’s like to be one!” Kaine called out in the direction of the building where the broken glass was. Kaine’s body was broken and cut up, but his suit was ripped apart a few times. His breathing had been rather harsh. Whether or not Wolf Spider knew it, Kaine had been leading him towards the dock if anything, Otto would at least be able to figure this guy out. Something about him wasn’t normal. his communication device out from his mask, he turned it on. “Otto, the target is getting closer. You will be ready for him when I bring him in. I’m not in good shape though. This fight has to end soon, and one of us will end up dead." Kaine knew that much was true. Kaine said as he was struggling to spit the words out. “I already suffered several injuries.” He said, not even sure if he suffered from broken bones or bad bruises. It was already dark out as he figured he had blacked out for a few hours. He knew he was getting closer and closer to where the dock was. Kaine just had to deliver the final blow.
He had gotten this far. Who was to say he’d make the last leg of the trip? Kaine would survive as he brought his stingers out using his senses and wits about him. His spidey sense was no help either on chasing this guy. If he was related to him, and somehow the spidey sense was not picking it up. It was completely useless. Kaine was on his own here. "I need a vacation after this."
“Monster? Is that any way to treat…” A voice that sounded much like his own said from the darkness as a man with a very similar build stepped into the light of a flickering light above them on a nearby wall. The figure was wearing a gray costume with a spider emblem in its center. He was wearing a gray face mask with large red optics. After a moment he reached up and unlocked the mask as thin jets of air shot from ports in the sides. Pulling it off his face looked just like Peter Parker when he was no more than eighteen as he approached the clone.
“..your own brother? We are brothers are we not?” The strange new Spider said as he walked closer. “Not that we ever met, but I know you Scarlet Spider. At least the poor soul who was Scarlet from my own world. Such a tragic life he led. Well, at least he would have led one if I didn’t cut it so short!” He said as an evil smirk crossed his face.
“So you know what it's like to be a monster do you?” That handsome smile quickly faded. “You. Know NothingggRAAHHH!!” Falling to one knee the Spider placed a hand over his face as his tanned skin changed to a dead ash gray! The fabric on his back ruptured as four long hairy tarantula-like legs grew quickly as they reached up before coming down and hitting the gravel of the roof with long curved claws!
“HEhHAHHAA!” Letting out an evil sadistic laugh the Spider stood up taking his hand away from his face. Two extra eyes then opened with a pair of red pupils and black sclera in each as well as an additional pupil in his original eyes. Standing up on the newly created legs he lifted his body off the ground and seemed to tower over the other Spider.
“Call me Wolf-spider. A spider that takes joy in hunting down other spiders! And I gotta say you made this far too easy.” He said with a strange reverberation in his voice that made it seem deeper than the cracking adolescent voice Spider-Man had at this age. “Swinging around your respective city like a giant red target. You know how many of you I killed off just because you were swinging around the city looking for trouble? I almost killed you just now!” The Spider yelled as the legs took a few steps closer, each one making a large hole in the gravel!
“I have been tracking Spiders for months now. Killing one pathetic loser at a time, one world at a time... But lo and behold I come across this world! Not only is it swarming with Spiders it seems to be a place you flock to! Talk about working smart and not hard!” He laughed!
“And now I get to add another Kaine to my collection. And after you, ill go hunt down that pretty girl in the black and white Spider outfit….” He then grinned sharp teeth!

Most civilians had no idea that there was a fight going on right above them in the skyscrapers high above. They walked about their business. Kaine had managed to assess some of his injuries, placing some webbing on his arm was bruised. Kaine had felt worse. His durability had caused him to survive the fall, thanks to his spider powers. He had survived several falls in the past, and this would be no different. He knew that he may end up killing this guy. Or it was going to be the other way around.
The clone’s eyes behind the mask were no doubt shocked, “You are not my brother, not from this dimension anyway.” He had said. Kaine had not seen this villain before. He had been running from death ever since he was made. Now that Kaine had been granted new life, he certainly was not going to waste. “I do not go hunting down others anymore,” Kaine said as he had stopped doing that awful past. He saw the monster in this man before he had even brought it out. He had to survive. Had to see Cindi some more. He had to see if by some odd chance of going home. He had to see a lot of things. His future was uncertain on any of it. After all, why should it matter? He was a clone. A copy of someone else. A mere shadow of Parker. The unlucky shadow.
“You are the monster here, not me!” Kaine said, but before he could even yell out more accusations, he saw the monstrous transformation of the creature as he had a grey form and several legs. Kaine knew he had a semi disadvantage here. The clone was strong. However, he had no idea how long he could keep it up. His back and body were all bruised and cut up from the fall, and he had no idea if there were some internal injuries. Well, he knew what broken ribs were like, and he did not feel any. "You have gone out completely off on the Great Power comes Great Responsibility. I do not even know who you are." Kaine said as he denied it all.
“That is because you caught me off guard,” Kaine said, as he tried to stand he felt his legs wobble underneath him. Just buying a bit of time as he felt his healing factor trying to heal his injuries.
His eyes widened under the mask as he realized he might be talking about Cindi. The one girl that he cared about, and had thought they could form a deep bond of a friendship, something that was hard for Kaine to have. “Leave her alone!” He spoke. “If you want to get to other spiders, you have to get through me first!” Kaine said as he brought out his stingers. He was not playing nice anymore, and he saw what a monster this man was. Kaine had lived all his life trying to hunt down Ben Riley and others. Killing many snapping Otto’s neck, and even pulling out one of his tentacles, he had killed several of Peter’s villains because he believed that they were going to hurt him. And then Kaine met Mary Jane with such red hair and face, and he had seen her tragic end in one of those future visions of his. Then why he did not see them? Some of his powers had gone dormant since the first attempt to fix him.
Kaine was breathing hard as he went to try and slash at Wolf Spider, and then he thought of something else. His palm glowed a deep red as he shoved a hand towards the spider’s face, and if successful, it would leave a painful burn enough to slow him down for a bit. “If I am going to die tonight, I will at least give you everything I have,” Kaine yelled back. He was not being nice anymore, and he was going out on a furious rampage. He just hoped Cindi never saw him like this.

“Uhhh. Yeah, duh I just said I’m the monster….” The ash-skinned Parker said as he raised a brow folding his arms. He then crossed one leg over the other as he stood on the larger spider legs that sprouted from his back. He had the same quippy humor as every other Peter Parker but it sounded far more sarcastic. As Kaine spoke about the great responsibility speech he rolled all eight of his pupils.
“Oh please…” Wolf said waving a hand. “Don’t dredge up that nonsense to me! I used to live by that rule! I did up to the point where they let Uncle Ben’s killer out of jail to guess what! Kill again! Well, he’s not doing anything now but feeding the maggots…” The legs lowered him to the ground as he growled a harsh animal-like noise. The legs reared up and were now poised above his shoulders. Holding up a hand he took a swipe in the air at him!
“The last thing I need is some cheap photocopy throwing that little nugget of wisdom at me like a dead fish!” He was going to enjoy this! Wolf has killed so many Spiders he was losing count. Some of them were easy, he just needed to hunt down their friends or family while others were annoyingly difficult, but in the end, he always won. It helps to have insider information! As Kaine stood up Wolf-Spider smirked evilly. It hardly seemed like this kill was going to be worth his time
“Wow, you look terrible. I think this hunt will be more of a mercy killing. Like putting down a sick dog before he ends up in a diaper and being pulled around in a wagon. HA!” Suddenly letting out a boisterous laugh Wolf placed a hand to his head his fingers in his hair, his voice becoming more and more unhinged by the moment.
“I mean everyone is thinking the same thing right?!!! But they just let it linger, and linger, losing all of its dignity until they finally take that fateful trip to the vet!! HehAHHAHAAaaa!!” Taking a few steps back he wiped his eyes catching his breath!
“Oooohh that’s funny….heh….” Opening his four eyes he grinned evilly at Kaine noticing his reaction.
“Oh yeah? What is she your little spider-girlfriend? Well, isn’t that just cute! How about this? How about I don’t kill you like I really wanna, and I go pay her a little visit. Who knows? Maybe she will like me much better…” He said getting into an attack stance as the legs moved, making slight creaking noises from their joints!

He didn’t even have enough strength to move to try and dodge the oncoming swipe it hurt and stung his face blood probably came from his nose into his costume. He was right about being a weak clone. Kaine never had any confidence in himself. Would anyone have confidence after their father and creator rejected him? Spitting out more blood on the floor Kaine was back on his knees again, and he almost wanted to accept death. “Ugh!” That was all he could say as he rubbed his lips, and his jaws did not feel broken, and they were sore as the rest of the clone's body was. All those memories of being rejected felt. Staying in the lab had been one thing. It sparked something. A desire to live. Was he going to die here? All that work that he had done before here had been worthless.
“No, leave her-" He was too tired to finish, and he clenched his hands as he felt something he had not done in a long time. Tears. Kaine did not die. Was it because he had accepted it? Had he accepted something that had come? No, he wanted to go home see his friends and Spider-Man as much of a grump he was. There was something else. He had gotten a little bit attached to this dimension, and he had no idea why or where. "She's a friend! She's about a thousand times better than you'll ever be!" He finally yelled back. Kaine was getting angrier and angrier by the second. Fulling rage to the ever burning fire.
But that tiny voice in the back of his mind. The one that screamed for wanting to live just like that night that the Jackal threw him away. He saw the horror that of those poor victims that the Jackal had tossed aside. No, he was going to make his father eat those words. He had come so far with so much hope in himself the hope and will to live had been strong ever since day one. “Shut up! I am done with you! You do not scare me!” He said. “My whole life, I have been trying to run away from death, and a grey bug like you is not going to stop me! I am going to change things a bit here. I am done running from you. I am going to squash you like the bug you are.” Kaine declared. He put his hands on his head, and as he called out for a distress signal. At first, he had heard nothing, just like the jungle, it was silent, suddenly nothing.
The silent movement came as the sound of not one spider, but many just like the jungle, and there had been many spiders living in the city as they began to gather up on the apartment as Kaine felt better seeing that he had an advantage. Some had started to even get closer towards Wolf Spider. "I have called for some friends, and told them everything about what you said to me, just now. And you know what, they did not like it. They do not change their minds too easily, that you snack on others." Kaine said. "There are about as millions of spiders as there are humans in this city. I was just going to give you want you wanted." Kaine added. As he started to get up his legs buckle, as he heard a loud creak of metal buckling underneath them.
“Let us see how you like it, falling off a skyscraper, but this weight would not hold us forever with us, and the spiders,” Kaine said using his last bit of energy to try and turn the tides of this fight. He had to do this alone, and there was no sign of Otto or anyone else. With the weight of the spiders starting to gather on the skyscraper, a loud creak, and shifting of metal could be heard. It was clear it could not take any more of the weight it was going to collapse. He felt the metal buckle underneath him this time as he went once more to try and grab onto wolf Spider, and if he was going to die then better die trying, as he knew this building was going to collapse. He'd drag Wolf Spider down with him. "If I die then, I'll make sure you go down with me!" Kaine said not letting go even as he was so close to collapsing himself. The clone at least wanted something out of life. He knew they'd be smashed under ten feet of rubble.
“Yeeeeah, I don’t know what’s more pathetic. You going through those little death rattles of yours or trying to make me believe you are any threat at all….” Wolf-Spider grinned as he walked closer to the downed clone as his upper right leg on his back came up. The two long curved claws on the end extended even farther on the verge of slashing the Spider’s throat.
“Oh don’t worry. I'll give Cindi your warmest regards. Not that she’ll last long enough to miss you that is…” Just as he was about to slash however when Kaine went on about something Wolf didn’t quite make out since he was speaking with mouthfuls of blood. His attack halted in midair as he squinted and strained to try to hear him. After a moment Wolf rolled his eyes.
“For god's sake! I hate it when you lesser Spider's try to give me some half baked ultimatum or speech about great power yadda yadda. Like that ever changed anything... The claw reached down and picked Kaine up by the back of his suit and dangled him in front of him a foot or two off of the ground. “What? What are you saying!? I can’t understand a word! Did you just say you have...friends? Heh. Now I know you must be suffering from massive blood loss to think I’d buy that delusion…” Little did he know a small army was gathering en masse under near his feet as they crawled up the upper framework of the building itself. A few spiders weigh nothing, thousands can bend steel…
“You know what? I was wrong. You really are worth killing after all! Buh bye!” Giving him a small wave, the leg holding Kaine pulled him up higher as the upper left leg was about to cut him out of reality itself, when Wolf felt something buckle under his feet!
“Huh?” Looking down at the roof of the already old building, it began to pitch and bend in some places. “What the…?” Feeling Kaine grab him Wolf sneered! “What are you doing! Let go of me you pajama wearing loser!” Gritting his teeth trying to shove Kaine off the rooftop suddenly buckled and caved in sending the two Spider’s through it and ended up inside the top floor apartment, only to crash through to the next apartment below!
Landing hard the strange gray spider was hit with falling debris as a steel girder slammed into the back of his head causing him to lose consciousness! Laying under the rubble he didn't seem to be able to get up.. “Unngg….”

The clone knew he was inches away from death, the way the Wolf Spider had cornered his ‘prey,’ like that. He was barely able to stand, as the wolf spider dropped him, as he hung on to the stable part of the building. He would’ve accepted death. No one would miss him as far as he was concerned. Not even Peter, he’d get on his life without the clone, and he was probably better off. Kaine had searched and searched for a purpose in his life, and there only seemed to one on killing Peter. Once the spiders deemed the threat was over, they began to head back on their way as they began to disperse. Some stayed behind to make sure that everything was alright, and even one stayed behind to check on Kaine as he remembered the one that one Black Widow. Perhaps he was right, and he was more spider than human. He never was able to relate to any of the humans here. Just because he felt so different.
"Dammit you fool! Your own arrogance knocked you out!" Kaine said spiting out some blood, and coughing. Once he had been released. Once the wolf spider had been knocked out, Kaine winced, hearing a powerful pang come to the man’s head as he hit some steal. He tried to stand, but he only wound up coughing as he felt the nosebleed. “Go home! You guys did your job,” Kaine said as the spider watched as he staggered for a bit. “Some days I wish I hadn’t been created, and today is one of those days.” He said, so disturbed by what the Wolf Spider had said.
But he still had a job to do just like the clone had been programmed all those years ago by the Jackal. Using what strength, he jumped down into the apartment as he picked up the Wolf Spider and wrapped his legs up for easy holding as he made his way over towards the dock. It took him a bit to get there each step was in agonizing pain. By now, Kaine knew the way to the docks where the lab was.
He jumped down off the buildings, before making his way there over to the lab door. As he banged on it. “Otto! Otto, open up!” He said as his energy felt like it was sucked out of him. His breathing harsh and ragged as he sat down, almost dropping Wolf Spider. He put his back on the cool metal as he felt like he had a fever coming on his whole body shook with sweat. If Otto had asked what happen, a part of him didn’t want to tell him and keep him bottled up. Apart from him, and felt like Otto didn’t care about his emotions, and what happened tonight disturbed the clone so bad he felt tears come his face was wet as he took his mask off and used it to try to clean himself up, but it didn’t do much good. Then Kaine realized he, of course, had emotions. The Jackal had just turned him into a hardened fool. He just waited until Otto came to get him, and he had no strength to go back to his apartment.
The night had been miserable only to echo. As it started to rain on him, the soft drizzle of rain on his body, the rain felt good. Kaine probably looked like a bloody drowned rat. And he sought the only comfort he had found in this cruel world. Jackal had been right about that part, at least. If Otto didn't come, then he'd more than likely fall asleep at the front door.

The doors to the lab hissed open as Octopus emerged looking down at Kaine and …something. The upper left arm reached over and scanned Kaine as Otto frowned.
“You have a concussion and extensive damage including broken bones and internal bleeding. Your improved healing factor isn’t able to keep up. You need to get into the cloning tank immediately for repair!” He said as the actuator reached down taking Kaine by the arm and helping him to his feet. Looking back at the ..whoever it was on the ground Otto tilted his head.
“What am I looking at? This is the target you were chasing? Or rather who was chasing you?” Reaching over the same arm scanned it as Otto raised a brow. “What in blazes?” The actuator then shoved the half-dead-looking creature on its back as Otto kneeled down to get a better look. Its skin was an abnormal ash color, as were its eyes..all four of them. But it looked like…
”Parker!?” Standing up he took a step back noticing the hairy tarantula-like legs protruding from his back! He had to admit, whenever he saw a Spider with extra arms he had the urge to file for copyright infringement…
“This one has or had the Man-Spider disease. But by the looks of it never cured himself like the Parker from your world Kaine. Fascinating….” As the other Spider began to move, he slowly looked up at the two of them. But before he could speak Otto gave him a slight grin.
“Welcome to Earth-7423…” He said as an actuator reared up before striking him in the face, sending him off to dreamland once more!
“I must get this specimen inside and in a containment tank immediately!” Reaching down the upper two actuators grabbed the unconscious Wolf-Spider and picked him up over his shoulders. Looking back at Kaine Otto motioned to get inside.
“I'll tend to you first. Your wounds are borderline critical. But that is expected when you collapse a building on yourself…” Turning Otto headed inside and sent the strange Spider slamming into one of the spare cloning tanks! But just before he switched it on, he noticed something shining around the “evil” Parker’s wrist. "Now what’s this?" Pulling off some sort of device Otto examined it over before setting it down on the terminal. He then activated it the tank filled with oxygenated liquid sending the Spider to sleep. Looking over at Kaine he nodded.
“Into the tank quickly. It will only take a few moments to heal the majority of your wounds…”

“But-" The clone was about to object about going into the cloning tank. Kaine had always been reluctant with it. Because of what the Jackal had subjected him with all those years ago. Bad memories could easily sum it up. He was so exhausted head killing and pounding that he didn’t even want to object at this point. Kaine knew he had to explain to himself. “I guess I hit my head pretty hard… I was running on adrenaline the whole time and didn't realize the extent of my injuries.” Kaine admitted as he was rather shocked to hear that he had been in a critical situation like that. Though Kaine knew he was another Parker, he just had no idea what the guy had been through. Kaine accepted Otto's help as they walked into the lab.
“He had what? Man spider virus? I had heard of it a little bit. I knew it was another Parker. He has gone mad trying to kill other spiders.” Kaine said as Otto helped him up. His feet were wobbly with each step each breath hurt to take as he felt his nose starting to stop as it had gushed out blood had finally stopped as he didn’t use his mask anymore. No wonder the ground had hit him so hard earlier. His head was pounding. But he hadn't felt the extent of his injuries until Otto had scanned him. Broken bones? Concussion? The concussion made sense his head had been killing him. "He threw me off a skyscraper too."
“I guess I have no choice, I hit the building pretty hard… I don’t know Otto, and on some days, like today. I wish I hadn’t been created. He threatened everyone, even Cindi, the one girl I care about. I do more hurting than any good around here. I can not even stop a bad guy. I-” He knew his rambling probably sounded like pouting to Otto at this point. He remembered once Spider-Man telling him that showing emotions or even crying was all normal, natural feelings. The clone felt responsible for Wolf Spider, and if he ever threatened his friends or anyone close, he would make sure they were hunted down. Kaine did not even flinch, when Otto struck the other spider. He had deserved it.
“I will get in the tank,” Kaine said. He was whipping his face free of blood, now that he was out of the rain. His hair and body would dry from the wet, and cold feeling he felt on his body. He looked over at the tank. They had good and bad memories now of his body had been fixed, and also the Jackal. The tank had been dormant since they last used it. The reluctance, now turning into a necessity.
Kaine climbed into the cloning tank, and his body was too tired to fight or even move to Otto. He welcomed the rest. “I’m sorry, I came to you Otto…But seemed like the best choice…” He trailed off about ready to fall asleep, but he wanted to hear what or if anything Otto wanted to say perhaps, he had been too hard on himself. Kaine had never felt such defeat and failure, not since he had encountered his father with that rejection. But in a few moments, the clone was asleep, too tired to argue or listen. He welcomed the sleep greatly. As his body ached all over. It was time to recover.
Several hours passed as Kaine woke up, he felt rather drowsy as the machine huffed open as the glass container opened it up. He felt too drowsy to move in it. He knew that this might be something serious, if he got up right away. His body had been healed except he felt sore all over his nose wasn't bleeding anymore as he tried to stand the room spun a bit. He wasn't sure how much time had passed. He had guessed it was around 6 or 7 am in the morning. "Otto?" He asked wondering what happened to the scientist he was probably asleep or spent all night working on that other guy. He tried taking a step forward and felt the room spin as he wobbled as he grabbed the table. "Woah." He said knowing the dizziness would subside soon.

Otto was really not the best choice to look to for emotional support. Considering his view of the world was already bleak as it is, and he was thoroughly convinced fate had a wonderful sense of humor when it came to his life. But as Kaine walked past him to get into the tank Otto sighed a little. Now he was expected to build someone else up? Fantastic….
“Listen to me Kaine,” Otto said as he prepared the tank. “Everyone has times when they feel, less than. I too have had bouts of it, most of my own childhood in fact.” Otto grunted looking down at the panel. Talking about his past was never easy. “But then I remember that I am better than the sum of my parts. I am better than those who created me. I have to be if I am to carry on…” Looking up at him Otto frowned.
“Jackal may have made you, but he does not define you. Do you really wish to be better than him? Free of him? Then don’t let him rule over you!” The scientist’s voice began to rise. “If you do not wish to be a hero then fine! But you want to protect your friends? Or that girl? Then stop feeling sorry for yourself and do not let anyone stand in your way!” He then slammed his fist down on the counsel as the tank lit up. Walking out from around the terminal Otto approached the tube as it began to fill with oxygenated liquid.
“I did not refurbish this tank to trap you or punish you. It was created to heal you. So, stop treating my tech like a punishment and use it to your advantage….” Ock said as he reached over and activated it so Kaine would sleep. “See you in the morning…”
As the hours passed and morning came Otto was still at working looking over the scans of the strange ash-colored Spider. He was perplexed by the readouts as he looked over his DNA as a large holo-image of a helix spun in front of him in the middle of the terminal.
His DNA, and the silver watch-like device he had on him.

Kaine was wobbly at first, and his stomach was growling at him since he forgot to eat dinner last night… Oops. He had been so focused on the fight with the Wolf Spider everything else pretty much was a blur. He found a couple of apples that were easy enough to eat for breakfast. He had to come to terms with what Otto had said, last night as he had been sleeping. The first part was the obvious one, the tank. If Otto had said that he was not going to use it as punishment. Then he could learn to accept it as something that would help improve him with his healing factor. It would be one advantage over Peter, and one part of being a clone. But Kaine knew that he could not rely on the tank forever, and Kaine's own body would have to learn how to heal itself. He could recondition himself, and learn that it was good all things in a good change in good time.
Then there was the other part about the Jackal he had always feared the man. He was nuts and insane. Kaine never really considered him a father after he threw him out. Otto was right, and Kaine had to let the Jackal go. All those years ago, working with the second set of Web Warriors, he thought he had made it. But on the other side, and Kaine had not until now. Those scars would all disappear, and in time, the other part of him could come out. The real Kaine, who was not grumpy and cranky. He wandered over to where Otto had been studying the Wolf Spider his legs were a bit wobbly and his body was sore but just about everything had recovered. He figured it was from his body hitting the sky scraper so hard. That made sense.
“Otto? Did you find anything about our Parker Wolf Spider enemy? I remember him saying something about having a watch or a shard. It was kind of a blur.” Kaine said as he came over leaning on one of the workbenches. It looked like Otto had been working all night once more as he never got any sleep. Kaine knew that much had been true, as he refused and got engrossed in his work.
“And Otto, I thought about what you said last night. I’m willing to accept the tank as something good I think it will just take some reconditioning… Relearning it all over again. I know it’s more of an advantage than my template had.” Kaine said as he looked over feeling his body was a bit weak and tired still. Over time he’d recover, and he wasn’t planning on doing much today anyways, to let his body recover. A majority of it had overnight. His blood had cleared up from being in the tank as his suit was dry.
He almost felt normal as his head was not hurting anymore. Kaine was quiet as he did not feel like talking too much, and he had done a lot of thinking. Even the not talking had seemed unusual for the spider. “I take it you spent another all-nighter studying the guy,” Kaine said as his body felt sore, but there was no more pounding in his head and ribs had healed he even had checked his face in the mirror as there was not a deep gash on it anymore either. And Kaine did not want to be near the guy if he ever woke up.

Hearing Kaine’s voice, Otto turned from his work on the strange new Spider. “Good, I am glad to hear you are finally getting past that.” He said looking back at the readings. “Learning to use what you have to your full advantage is a good strategy.” He then nodded. Otto did indeed remain up all of the previous night studying this Wolf-Spider. He had not slept and most likely had forgotten to even eat. Not when there was such a fascinating specimen to work with!
“I have learned a great deal from him. He is not only yet another version of Peter Parker, but he has integrated the man-spider disease fully into his own DNA. Able to shift back and forth at will from this form to a more human one. But unlike the spider that bit the Parker from my world and yours, this one was bitten by a predatory spider. One with an appetite to eat its own kind.” Otto folded his arms. “It is quite possible that the abilities gained from the spider depend on the spider itself. It has always been my theory that Parker has some sort of anomaly that merged with the bite of the altered spider. Hence why duplicating his abilities was always so difficult.” Holding his hands behind his back he looked at Kaine.
“But this goes even farther and suggests that the type of spider determines the Spider-man. So I went back to my old research. The DNA samples you gathered prove my theory. I have found several different species of spiders but all have the same link. All of the spiders were altered on a genetic level, but only when the anomaly is present in the subject did it combine properly.” He brought up pictures of the Web-warriors as well as the spiders responsible for their powers. Most were steatoda nobilis, a false widow. But some were weavers spiders like the one that bit Cindi and the wolf spider like the intruder.
“It almost seems planned somehow. But I cannot fathom how or why since this occurs across separate planes of existence….” As Kaine mentioned the watch he nodded.
“Yes, but it is no mere watch…” He said as his upper left actuator reached past Kaine picking up the silver object. “It is some sort of transdimensional device. The technology is far beyond anything I have seen. It can bend space itself and open a portal similar to the ones that brought us here. But there doesn’t seem to have a way to set a destination…”

“I’m a little bit sore, but I’ll live. My head isn’t pounding either.” Kaine said as he nodded. He knew that he’d be able to move on from the tank. “I see that would explain why he went after myself and others in the past. The urge to try and kill others probably consumed him.” Kaine said.
“But that would explain why other spider-powered people also have different abilities. I have been able to get by with the Mark of Kaine, talking to spiders, and stingers. Whereas Peter doesn’t have any of those.” Kaine said with a soft nod as he finished the apple as he left the core, and he had forgotten to eat last night before being put in the tank. There was no time for it as he was exhausted, so his stomach said otherwise as he got up. His body was starting to come to him, and as Kaine was waking up more, his legs were sturdy and not wobbling as much. He wasn’t planning on doing anything too harsh today in case, and if he accidentally reinjured something or Otto would tell him to rest anyways… Speaking of which, it looked like Otto had been consumed with his work, and Otto forgot to eat and sleep. That sounded familiar. The Jackal did the same thing when he had been working.
“Planned? Like Spider-Men being bit was no accident? He always said it was like an accident …” Kaine said. He had always had his thoughts down to earth as you made your destiny and had to forge your path. If anyone had beaten that into him, it would’ve been his creator himself.
“His watch? I’m surprised he didn’t get it smashed up in the falling-down building. He said he stole it from someone else, but I never got that much out of him. He still talks and yacks like Peter for sure.” Kaine said shaking his head. “He also went on saying how we were brothers, and I denied that part because I didn’t want to believe it… He was worse than what I did…” Kaine said with a sigh as Otto had been working on things while he had been asleep as his body was adjusting to being awake, and he felt a bit clearer, no more pounding head as he felt earlier.
“I see so he could go back to the past, future, or even different dimensions. Maybe it requires the use of a shard? It’s only a guess I know next to nothing about it.” Kaine said as he saw the watch with a grey and blue glow around it. It was something that he hadn’t seen before and clearly, and Otto hadn’t. They needed more time to study it and look at the watch’s abilities. But Kaine also realized time was against them. They should be collecting more shards as others might want to gain them for their abilities. As of right now, he only had one space shard. “If you want, you can borrow the space shard I have, see if it does anything,” Kaine said, and Kaine was no expert or scientific genius or even had a certificate. He went back to where his back was his bed was as he retrieved his bag and took the blue shard out as he hadn’t found a use for it yet.

“Indeed. You are a clone of Spider-man yet Warren gave you different abilities. He must have activated dormant traits and brought them out in you. But the others, it almost seems like they were chosen for some sort of purpose. I was never one to believe in fate, though I must admit there does seem to be some sort of cruel design in place for the world.” Otto then turned toward the screen building up the log on all the different Spiders currently in New York, some not even Kaine has met yet.
“This is unlike natural selection, where living beings evolve gradually over time. Or even such an event as the X-gene. This is a single individual or a very small number of individuals on multiple versions of Earth, each given Spider-powers…” Looking at Kaine, Otto folded his arms as his actuators kept skimming through the data.
“I used my own existence as a base for my theory. You see, you know of an Octavius, so does Silk and many others. In each instance they are all in essence, me. Oh, the past may be different, the actuators look different. I may even be a different gender or even a different species. But all are in some way, shape, or form an Octavius. But you Spiders, while most are Parker there are some from different backgrounds, continents, ethnicities. This does not suggest that to be a Spider a teenager needs to wander off on a field trip and end up bitten.” Otto switched off the monitor as his actuators took their places behind his back once more.
“This took planning. A plan that spans over trillions of worlds…. I ..I just have no idea how this can be…Yet…” Looking at Kaine he raised a brow.
“He had stolen it from someone else? Hmm…It is made of an alloy that is far beyond anything even from my world and seems almost indestructible” Looking at the shard Otto shook his head.
“It has a unique power source that seems to work similarly to the space shard as it too can open portals. But the space shard opens portals to other places, not dimensions. And this watch device does not travel through time like the time shard but opens doorways across planes of reality.”
“Like the portals that brought us here…..” Octavius narrowed his scarred eyes behind his glasses. “Just like the portals that brought us here….” As he spoke an actuator reached over grabbing the silver device holding it up.
“Interesting. Tell me something, Kaine. If you wanted to take over a world, what would be the best way to gather a tailor-made army?”
