When the clown opened his cool green eyes he was blinded by flashing lights. Colorful beams shot into the sky in a way that reminded him of a carnival. He had worked many day shifts, and night shifts, on carnivals such as this one. He sat up in the middle of a crowd all huddle around him, pointing and whispering like he was some kind of spectacle. Though with the smudged clown makeup and blood littering his clownish smile he probably was. Just a few moments ago he had been dancing on top of a car surrounded by hundreds, perhaps thousands, of other clowns just like him wreaking havoc on Gotham, and now? Well, he was laying on a dirty peer in what he would later come to know was Coney Island.
Despite the strange randomness of his situation, he stood to his feet without missing a beat. For some reason, the thought of simply being thrust to a new city, perhaps even a new world, seemed to make perfect sense to his demented mind. It didn't matter if he wasn't in Gotham. It didn't matter if he wasn't even in America. No matter where you went people were the same, no matter where he ended up his goal was always the same.
A harsh string of giggles left his throat, eventually cascading in a louder, even less controllable guffaw. The sound came out strained and forced, leaving his throat feeling raw in the process. Bystanders seemed to shift away from him as some passed him off as just another clown.
Still, the Joker smiled. He smiled his strangely uneven smile as he surveyed his new surroundings. This most definitely not Gotham, but since when did that matter? His green eyes landed on the Ferris wheel.
How funny would it be if that wheel came undone and rolled around the carnival? A series of low laughs left his mouth, this time with more ease than his laughing fit from before.
"Very funny." He answered more to himself than to anyone else as he made the slow trek through the crowd toward the wheel, the cool steel of his trusty revolver resting at his side. "Very, very funny."

Kaine had one of those rare days where there wasn’t a whole lot going on, which was hard even for the spider. His thoughts were elsewhere distracted by what Madame Webb had told him that he had trust issues. Well, that had been since he had been ‘born,’ he knew that the Jackal had already caused him to go crazy and the suffering that the man gave him internally and mentally. He would quite frankly forget those days, but he couldn’t as he was a shadow of himself and a shadow of Spider-Man.
For some reason, Kaine found himself wandering through the carnival. He knew if he had stayed here long enough, he would run into trouble, or it’d find him. It was that Parker Bad luck that Kaine had inherited from his template Peter. Kaine had gone to Coney Island to try and search for shards, but he had only come up empty-handed. He wasn’t interested in riding on any of the rides as the Ferris wheel had fascinated him a bit at the lights and the way it spun so slowly. Where these all memories from Peter? He had no idea.
There was some insane laughing as his spidey sense went off, more like a big pang of a headache on the side of his head as he heard laughter. He looked around he saw that a crowd had gathered not far from where he was.
“What the hell is the matter with you laughing like that?” Kaine asked, his spidey sense ebbing more and more in his mind.
Then he realized who he had been dealing with. If Batman had warned him once, then Harley had done it several times by now. If anything, he was dealing with a face that only belonged to the devil. Batman had warned him once on his trip to Gotham, but he was certain that Joker didn’t know who he was. If anyone was going to stand up to the Joker, tonight it was him. The laughter reminded him of the Jackal, it was scary almost, but Harley had put up a point. Perhaps these two might’ve gotten along. They were both insane criminals doing crazy things, as Warren wasn’t just mad. He was insane trying to get a clone for himself from Peter’s DNA. Well, this failed clone was about to throw another wrench at a villain if tempted close enough. Kaine had dealt with all kinds of villains in his life. HIs heart pounded in his chest as he knew this one was different. He remembered Batman's warning.
“Wait a minute. I should know better… Harley and Batman told me about you.” Kaine said his scars were obvious, in the moonlight, as he had been through a lot already. His cellular degeneration had caused him so much pain already. If they were to break out in a fight tonight, Kaine was prepared with his Scarlet Spider spider suit underneath, and he never left home without it. “Joker.” It looked like Kaine might have to stand up to the Joker tonight. "Why don't you pick on someone else for a change? I guess I'm the only one who will stand up to you tonight." Kaine said.
With a shard of her own, Batgirl was able to look over the details of its data, using it to improve her radar app. She's able to pinpoint where a shard is, but sadly in close range. She researched the shard in her main computers, comparing it to the rifts that are around the city...and they have some significance...and they probably aren't...random. From what she heard from Kaine, an ally of his fear that there is a war coming, and the cause might be controlling these portals. If that's true, and these shard are related, then this mysterious chessmaster might be using their power to open portals...maybe using pieces of these stones that weren't shattered to shards. The shards already hold so much power, so who would be able to know how to use them? Not from her world, or she reign it down to someone like Darkseid.
Well, right now, she was patrolling Brooklyn, as it seems to be her turf now, until her phone detected a rift around Coney Island. Thanks to the cover of the night, she used her grapple gun to go over the entrance fence, avoiding the security's sight. Following the signal, she rushed through the crowd, hoping to catch the source before it, he, or she leaves...
...until she grappled on top of a food stand, when she spotted a small crowd gathering by the docks. She can see Kaine...
...and her veins shot cold when she saw...pretty much the devil in clown makeup. "....n-no!!"
Two separate voices snapped him out of his sporadic thoughts as he paused in his tracks. The first was a man, chastising him for his laugh. People were always commenting on his laugh, criticizing him for being out of the norm, he had been outcast by the people back in his homeworld that he was practically immune to such jabs. He turned in the direction of the male voice, his wild eyes unreadable as he searched through the heads in the crowd in search of the source.
Sure enough, he found it. His green eyes landing on a man he didn't quite recognize. His eyes glazed over in visible confusion as he turned to face him. He had never seen this man before in his life, yet he seemed to address him by name.
He then turned his attention to the second, a small female voice. His eyes widened upon catching sight of a woman on top of a food stand, dressed in the strangest getup he had ever seen. She seemed to be dressed like a bat, with pointy ears and a cap to match. A strange smile spread across his confused face as he simply laughed at the hilarity of it all. Just what was up with this broad? And people thought he was crazy.
"Do I know you people?" He asked with a smile, raising a brow as he glanced between the two of them. They weren't from his Gotham, not by a long shot. As far as he knew there were no bat-people in Gotham. Though he did see the fear and recognition in their eyes. The look filled him with a peculiar sense of satisfaction, something he has noticed was becoming more and more prominent now that he shed his Arthur-persona.
"You fellas wanna hear a joke?" A small crowd gathered around the three, not that the Joker minded, he enjoyed the attention, and he would enjoy the screams as well. "What do you get when you cross a couple o' do-gooders, a crowd of innocents and guy with nothin' to lose?"
Reaching into his jacket he turned his attention to Kaine. "Holes." Without warning he tore his trusty handgun from the waistband of his pants and fired at the Spider, not caring from the crowd of people surrounding Kaine. His laughs echoed as the crowd dispersed, the screams of carnival goers became deafening.

“No, but I know of your arch-enemy, and you can not stand his name,” Kaine said. The clone felt his spidey sense go off as it was a big old ping in the back of his forehead. "That is a pretty crummy joke though. I give it a 1/10." He instinctively ducked as he managed to dodge all but one as it tore right through his shirt, as it just grazed him using his instincts and trying to dodge, from oncoming fire. He cursed under his breath as it stung like heck. His healing factor would be able to heal it in a couple of minutes once, and it was activated. "I would've thought about something along the lines of a clown, a bat, and a spider walk in the bar but nooo."
He glanced around, and he saw the crowd had quickly disappeared as Kaine needed a spot to quickly change into his Scarlet Spider suit, which only required a few minutes. While the mad man was busy shooting up the place, Kaine ducked under one of the rids as there was a rather colorful curtain underneath as he had enough time to change, and ditching his clothing and his backpack in some webbing. He knew time was wasted as the madman was shooting into the crowd.
There was some screaming and running away while Kaine heard some of the others confusing him for Spider-Man again. He went ahead and ignored them as it frustrated him so much that had happened. Kaine had struggled with his superhero identity for a while now, as Kaine had not wanted to be a superhero., now Kaine had no choice. He was more so a vigilante done thing this own way whether or not they were particularly good or bad. Following his path and not abiding by the laws. But he knew he still had Peter’s personality and was a bit more aggressive than Peter was. Well, he had no choice here if the innocent civilians were not going to stop them. Then who was? It looks like he was going to have to do it. But he also realized he might have an alley here as Batgirl might help him, but he was too far away without exploding a plan to the obvious Joker might hear it.
Kaine had stood up on one of the fences, after climbing it. In the familiar squat pose that the spiders did. His red and dark black suit was in the moonlight. Tonight was going to be a long night, and he figured he was going to go home bloodied and bruised. Thank goodness Otto was not here to yell at him to get back in the healing tank. “Hey Joker, I heard it’s not nice to play with guns. Why don't you stop picking on innocent people? Gotham did not stink enough for you? So, you had to come here?” Kaine asked. That was when he noticed someone else in the crowd as it was someone he recognized. He took a hand forward, making a familiar thwip noise as he sent webbing towards the gun not only to clog it but also try to yank it out of his hands. “Batgirl, do have any ideas on how to stop this guy? I can distract him.” Kaine said feeling some blood run down his arm as he put some webbing on it to try and stop the bleeding. He didn't understand why Harley hung around this guy. Then again, why did he hang around Otto?
Of all the people to warp to this world, why HIM?! The man who murdered Jason Todd? Barbara still has some...raging issues over that, like she wants to....to kill this clown! But Batman's code forbids it, and she sticks by that to the letter. Besides, this Joker doesn't recognize her. Perhaps he comes from a timeline where he and Batman are at their early stages, before all the sidekicks. She remembered those days when Batman worked alone. Took a long while with her to convince him to train her.
Gunshots snapped her out of her thoughts, seeing Joker shoot at Kaine. His superhuman abilities allowed him to dodge the gunfire, no problem, but the frightened people were in so much danger, despite them running for their lives. She pulled out a batarang to disarm him, but Kaine beat her to it. Well, saves her on batarangs...
...but Batgirl didn't respond to him, as she glared at Joker, too angry to come up with a solid plan. But he needed to be warned. "Just...watch out for his Joker Venom! You'll be dead before you know it!" And she doesn't carry any antidotes for the venom. Quickly, she pulled out a thick batarang and threw it at the clown. It split into two, attached by wires, whirling like bolas.
"Oh, everyone's such a critic." The Joker said more to himself than to anyone else. As entertaining as this man and that bat-woman-girl-thing was, he found himself drawn to the Ferris wheel again. They were distracting him. A grimace came across his painted face as he lost Kaine in the crowd for a moment. Did the guy run away? He cast an unreadable gaze at the costumed woman. She seemed to harbor a special kind of anger for him, something that both amused and confused him. He was sure, no, positive that he had never seen this woman in his entire life. Typical, he had just gotten into this world and people were already repulsed by him, well, he supposed shooting into a crowd didn't help either.
"What the?" The clown was snapped out of his thoughts at the feeling of some strange sticky substance of some kind clutching onto his wrist. For a moment he simply stared in awe, just what in the hell was this supposed to be. First ladies in animal suits and now spider-men who shot what he hoped was webbing and nothing else. Without missing a beat he grabbed his switchblade in his free hand and sliced the webbing that tethered his wrist to Kaine.
His eyes watched them both with interest and amusement, his mouth cracking into a smugger smile. "What is with you two? You're both so terribly serious, loosen up a little." He chided lightly as he cautiously stepped back from the two of them. "I don't know why you're so against this. This carnival was such a tragically boring sight before, it's much livelier now!" He spread his arms out as he glanced between his two opponents, a string of laughs leaving his lips. At this point, he couldn't tell if his laughter was out of genuine amusement or a result of his condition but he hardly even cared. He supposed the not knowing was part of the fun.
"So tell me, just who are you people anyway?" He asked as his eyes flashed with genuine curiosity. "You seem to know me, but I sure don't know you." An idea rattled in his mind. It was beyond a crazy idea but he still wanted to see it play out.
"How about a truce? You tell me who you are and I'll consider telling my men not to blow this carnival sky high, what do you say?" He was lying, of course. There were no men under his employment, no bomb in the area, but there didn't have to be one for this to work. The do-gooders just had to believe him. He stood with his hands behind his back, his posture confident and self-assured, very different from the meek man he had been a few weeks ago, his eyes met theirs and betrayed nothing.
"I'll do you one better. If I like the life stories you two give me, I'll even consider letting you take me to Arkham! Maybe I'll even tell you about myself!" The cool night air whipped around him, his unkempt green hair wildly coiling around his face.

“Joker Venom? Right!? I’ll keep an eye out on that.” Kaine said knowing that his healing factor might be able to get him out of trouble for some of it, but poisonous gas in his lethal amount might be something days. Kaine saw when the Joker removed his venom with relative ease. Gee. The last time he had seen Batman, he hadn’t been kidding about this guy being a lunatic. He WAS one. “Lighten up a little!? You were the idiot who just shot into a crowd.” Kaine said. He might not be like his template, and believing in Great Power Comes Great Responsibility, but he knew stopping the Joker tonight was the only chance he was going to have. Kaine was a bit more aggressive than Peter had been. He was risking his life to save a whole bunch of innocent people he didn’t know who was having a good time at the carnival… That sounded a bit depressing. If he did get out alive, he’d probably spend another two days in the healing tank back at Ock’s lab if he was lucky enough… If he was lucky. “Who am I? I’m Spider-Man’s younger brother, Scarlet Spider, and surely you have heard of him. Mr. ‘Great Power Comes Great Responsibility.’ He wears a blue and red suit. Quips a lot.” Kaine said. “My creator would’ve liked you, and he was a mad man who used me for his gain trying to sleigh all of Spider-Man’s loved ones and then some of his enemies. I went mad from it before escaping to start my own life… The idiot blew up his lab sky high, and the Jackal wasn’t exactly smart. I hope that was enough of a sob story.” Kaine said. He knew he had been a villain at some point as he had always been on the run from it. “I’m his clone.” Kaine said. As there was some animosity towards Spider-Man, and as he realized he had spilled the beans out in front of Barbara. he hadn’t mentioned that before. He felt a bit ashamed of that as he knew that he was the imperfect clone of Spider-Man after the Jackal rejected him. All that pain, he wasn’t going to take it out on one of the civilians but instead take it out on the one person here who tormented Batman and others for years.
“A truce with you!? I’d rather suffer from my Cellular Degeneration again than be in a truce with you. Batsy said you were the worst of the worst. You’re just lucky I don’t trust anyone.” Kaine said as his anger was growing a bit, he tried to stay calm in it. He couldn’t help but notice that the Joker seemed to be all over the place. Over to him, and Batgirl and then to the Ferris Wheel. Yet he looked calm, which was confusing Kaine. He didn’t trust this guy one bit. he looked over at Batgirl, who looked like she was just as resistant as he had been. “I doubt anyone would settle with a truce with you except for maybe another bad guy.” Kaine summed up to be it that way.
“And I’m a bit different from Spider-Man.” He said as he jumped forward as his foot-long bone stingers with a loud yell as Kaine was about ready to swipe with everything he was having at the Joker. No more Mr. Nice guy. But Kaine had a weakness, and his right eye, was destroyed long ago, and hardly had any vision left… which may spell doom for him as well as his anger. The Joker was about to come face to face with an ex-killer. Kaine had run away time and time again from his past. Questioning his own morales if he was a hero or not cut out to be one. Now he could try and be a hero... Try to.
This was not going to end well. However, if Kaine died, he at least tried his hardest.
Still the same heartless Joker, though his tone seemed a little bored, until he laughs, then its bone-chilling. It's still the same Joker who'd laugh at a horrible catastrophe, where blood would splatter from people, bones crushed, and screams of murder would happen in front of him, and he laugh without any remorse. But something was off about this Joker. He doesn't know her, which could mean he's from a time before Batgirl debuted. But this was more than that. He doesn't recognize the costume it was obviously based on. It's like he came a time...
...even way before Batman.
Which means...if she beats him now...no pain and misery for the Gotham he came from. No deaths left in horrific nightmareish grins. No unnecessary chaos in the name of some sick joke, where the punchline ends with someone in a bloody mess...
...no Jason Todd beaten to death by a crowbar.
...unless he just has amnesia, and his memories just needs to be literally kicked back up.
With that in mind, Barbara charged at him, whipping out batarangs. "No truce! But I'll tell you who I am!" Hurling her batarangs...that split into two with wires attached, thus becoming bolas, "...I'm Batgirl!!"
