Kaine had been exhausted these last few days of tracking shards had left him of the thoughts that he had not gotten decent rest. He to try to help Otto find those shards, but he had been driving himself harder and harder. He was still a bit upset over Wolf Spider as he was not even sure what to at this point besides push himself harder. His injuries had healed by the tank as upon Otto’s request. It had been a week or so since the incident. It was starting to show that Kaine wanted to change. He wanted to be a hero yet, and at the same time, he had self-doubts he could be one due to his past. His new dimensional watch at his arm as Kaine had tried to keep it out of public view and make sure others did not see it. He knew it was an incredibly powerful tool.
Kaine was in some part of New York in Midtown as Kaine did not recognize it completely. He wandered around before trying to clear his head. But this time, Kaine was lost. He had no idea where to go or what to do. Kaine had no interest in being a hero or a villain. But Otto had proven a point that he had to push away from being the Jackal's servant and not to fear the tank anymore. Kaine glanced down at the dimensional watch as it swirled in blue lettering as it disguised itself as a regular technology watch showing the time. He felt like he had a ton of power in that watch. Not to mention a certain Peter started to hate him. He had been a jerk only because he had been one back. Just ugh. There was too much going on right now. And Kaine could certainly use a break.
That was when he noticed some of the men walking out of the police station. The police station had looked like it was getting ready to close. An old stone building with the name and the station of 43 on it. Kaine had seen most of the men turning in for the night as he should. He slipped in without being noticed as he came to the front office of the place as it was pretty much dead except for one or two policemen doing night work. And the one with the desk job who looked bored. He knew he had been brought here for a reason his spidey sense brought him here. Like it was trying to tell him something but he had no idea what. Or what it was. Was someone in trouble?
"Sir, are you here to pick someone up?" One of the policemen said. "Otherwise, I'd suggest you head home we're closing up soon."
"I don't know yet. Let me just hang around for a few minutes," Kaine said as he knew that it was an odd request as the older cop with some silver hair and half-bald head under the had nodded back.
"Don't try anything funny kid. I'm not in the mood for trouble tonight." The man said as he sat back down in his chair. He read his newspaper as Kaine sighed.
"No, I don't plan on causing trouble tonight. I'll be out of here before the place closes," Kaine said as he assured the older man.
“Please..” An older woman's voice was heard as she spoke to one of the officers at his desk. “You have to have something? I know this is hard to believe but I am not from this city. I mean I am..but it's not ..my city.” May Parker sighed as she tried to explain it to the officer who looked at her like she had Alzheimer's or something.
“I fell into some strange glowing thing and woke up near my house but it wasn’t my house. Someone else is living there. I told them who I was but they said the woman by that name passed away two years ago. Do I look passed away to you?!” She said giving the officer a big huff.
“I am May Parker. My nephew is Peter Parker, I live on 337 Elm Street East….” She said as the officer just shook his head. “I'm sorry lady, but no Parker is living there. Are you sure you don’t want me to call this nephew of yours? Maybe he can come here and uh..explain things t’you?” With that May just stood up and grabbed her purse.
“Look, just because I'm up in years doesn't mean I just escaped from an old folks home! I'll have you know I'm captain of my sky diving club, three years running!” She then turned and stormed out past him and past Kaine without noticing him before heading outside. Not that it will do any good, she had nowhere to go. Her phone didn’t work for some reason and she had no idea if any of her friends would even answer if she did. Stopping on the curb she held a hand over her face trying not to cry as tears welled up in her eyes. The city looked the same and sounded the same. But if she ..that is the woman who lived at that house died…Did that mean Peter was dead too?

“Uh?” The clone said as he perked up a bit. Kaine witnessed the event take place, as the woman looked distraught and upset. Wait a minute. Did she say something about another world? His eyes got bigger in surprise as he realized he had been through the same thing as well… And this memory he kept getting the house seemed familiar, but it was only from Peter’s memories. Sometimes they made no sense to him, or they were trying to guide him in some direction. Maybe he should just listen and tell her the truth. He thought he saw tears come to her face too.
“Wait-Wait ma’am!” Kaine spoke up in the direction of the woman. As his eyes went wide as he heard her say her name was Parker. They might be related. No dimensionally related, anyways. Kaine quickly left the police station as promised, and he felt sorry for her. He could not leave, now. Right when the shock had gone to his head.
Kaine went outside and located the older woman again. There was a hint of familiarity towards her as he approached her. His backpack at his side as he put his hands up showing he was unarmed (Of course minus the stingers and webbing) “Ma’am, I know this sounds crazy, but I am a Parker too… And I know how you feel… I have been through the same scenario.” Kaine said as his head fell a bit as his arms did as he came to her side.
“My name is Kaine Parker. I fell through a portal at the docks here.” Kaine said. “I understand if you don't want to believe me. It all sounds really strange,” Kaine admitted. He knew he was not one to believe in fate or destiny. However, Kaine could not leave this woman by herself. He paused, Kaine the house again as it came to his memories. Then it dawned on him. That was the house where Peter grew up in. A life Kaine never got to experience as he lived in a lab. It saddened him and made him jealous.
But if one thing worked here, he knew telling the truth was the right thing to do here. “I am an alternate dimension clone of your nephew…” He said gritting his teeth. Again, he felt like a shadow… He hung his head and was about ready to leave. Kaine felt ashamed of saying that, and Kaine felt terrible. Kaine had never felt so conflicted in his life.
Hearing a voice she would have sworn it was Peter’s as she froze in place! The voice sounded older and gruffer but there was no mistaking it. Her eyes went wide as she turned to see a young man with a scarred face run up to her. Had this been back in her world his tale about the portals and being some alternate version of her nephew she would have smacked him with her purse and run away.
“A ..a clone of Peter?” She asked. Back in her world, there was a clone of Peter by the name of Kaine. One that was created by some crazy scientist as some sort of weapon. But in the end, he turned to the side of good and was now a Web Warrior and a teacher. But this man didn’t seem like the same Kaine. The scars were different and on the other side. But same man or not she was grateful to know someone in this strange world.
“Kaine?” Tears began to well up in her eyes as she grabbed him by his shoulders and hugged him!
“I know you're not the one I met but…” May said trying to keep herself together. “I am just so happy to see you!” She had no idea if this Kaine was good or not, but considering she had no one to turn to she took a chance that he was. After a moment she pulled away wiping her eyes.
“Sorry I got a bit overwhelmed. I haven't seen anyone I know since I found myself here and the police think I'm crazy and…” Looking at Kaine she smiled even more. “You look just like him…”

“Uh?” Kaine was not used to these hugs, and this had surprised him. Kaine had never gotten one in his life and never received one from the Jackal. So he was a bit surprised by it. Kaine had half expected this woman to try and smack him with his purse. Which would’ve made more sense, and he wasn’t very good with women, either. But the hug felt warm and welcoming. He knew Aunt May in his time was probably dead now and wasn’t alive anymore. It was a sad fate that came to many of the supporting roles that appeared from such an interesting woman. “I-It’s nice to see you May.” He said as he was able to lessen the stiffen a little bit. It sounded like she recognized him, at least someone similar to him.
“I don’t think we’re entirely the same Kaine. I’ve done some bad things in my life…” Kaine said as she released him. “I’m sorry. I’m not used to the hugging, and my creator said I’d be weak for showing any physical contact like that…” He admitted feeling almost ashamed of himself. He had heard of another different dimension Kaines. Usually, a lot of them ended up with some terrible fate or ended up dead. He figured this one had done bad things and probably redeemed himself in the end. By now, he figured, he was an antihero or vigilante. Kaine almost felt like cursing at the Jackal because of him. Kaine lost so many things, like a chance of having a decent childhood. But a clone had other priorities.
“I’m no hero, like Peter in my dimension, and I was more like his shadow.” He added. Kaine knew that was a little bit harsh or cold sounding, but it was the truth. “I try to follow my path as Scarlet Spider.” He, however, was glad to see one Kaine had survived and redeemed himself, and it was something that he could at least try to do some good here. “I am glad to see that other Kaine’s survived. I have heard a couple that didn’t,” Kaine said with a soft nod.
Then the memory of the house appeared again as he saw it this time the ones from earlier were not so vivid. It felt clear as he stood up for a second realizing that Peter might’ve been trying to tell him something. “I uh was wondering. I keep getting a vision from Peter here about a beige white-colored house that has stained glass. With a few ornaments in the front. I think it’s not far from here, and it's a few blocks. It’s not a trap. I feel like we are being led there. Like Peter sent it. If you want to come investigate it you can.” Kaine said trying to explain it a bit better, and it sounded weird. But he knew he should at least follow it.
His Scarlet Spider suit was tucked in his backpack along with the nanobot stealth suit also. “I think what Peter is saying is he wants me to take you to the house.” He said. Kaine hoped this didn’t sound weird at all. They just met. It was highly suspicious, and he would understand if she would turn him down. It made sense to do that. "It's alright that you got overwhelmed... I didn't do very well on the day I got here. I kind of lost my lunch at the docks and felt dizzy for a few days afterward." Kaine said. He hoped it would help her feel a little bit better. "I get that a lot even been confused for Peter." Kaine admitted if it weren't for the scars he probably wouldn't be that different. "I think our differences are clear though. The scars are there and I can't see well out of my right eye all that much. I lost my vision a long time ago, around the time I was created." He admitted.
“Oh no. I didn’t mean you look like Peter, I meant you look like Kaine. The one I know. He has a scar just like yours. Rather soft-spoken too. Not very fond of my nephew's little jokes, but then again not many are..” She smiled. “And yes, the Kaine I know did some bad things too, but he made up for them and is now teaching for SHIELD.” She could see he was a bit uncomfortable with the hugging, as she backed away.
“Oh sorry for that. I was just so happy to see a familiar face.” When he spoke of other versions of himself and some that may even be deceased May nodded. “I’m not going to pretend I know about all of this with the other universes and such. after all i'm pretty sure dimensional travel is a bit over my head. But if there are other versions of you I am sure they are just as heroic.” She smiled. “You have far more in common with the Kaine I know than just your looks. He didn’t think he was a hero either.” After all the one she knew was created by Doctor Octopus and used as a weapon to try and take down Peter, his friends and SHIELD. He almost killed her and her nephew but stopped just before and rescued them. May then paused for a moment.
“White house and stained glass? That sounds like my house. But the address I gave to the police, they said no one by my name lives there. But I guess it’s a start. Maybe I can find the May of this world? It's worth a try…” She said taking his arm.
“I am sorry about your eye. Has a doctor looked at it?” She asked seeing the white reflection in his iris.

“Yeah, I didn’t exactly get along with my Peter for a long time… I guess I was jealous of some of it. The other part of me was afraid of what happened if I attempted to bond with Peter… I end up hurting people.” Kaine admitted as he felt like he could tell the truth here. It was scary how close the Jackal was at getting everything right. Kaine had Peter’s DNA down to a science, fingerprints, and even hair to the point where he looked like a twin. The only a few differences and one of them was his scar across his face thanks to his cellular degeneration.
“Yeah, I struggled with being a hero myself. I was a villain for a long time and I wasn’t proud of some of the stuff I did. Most of it was manipulation by my creator, the Jackal. I joined SHIELD and the version of Web-Warriors in my dimension.” Kaine said with a soft nod. “I ran into a different version of Dr. Ock he didn’t seem that bad… Even fixed my cellular degeneration. so I feel like I owe him something that way.” Kaine admitted knowing Otto was one of Peter’s sworn enemies he might as well be his at this rate in time. However, Kaine was surprised that the two even got along.
“If you want to come, we can take a short walk,” Kaine said as he began to lead the way going up towards the path that made the most sense as it’d be a block or two away. "That is odd." Kaine's voice even seemed puzzled by that mention of the police not finding her house, as that was where the two had met.
“I’ve looked at the eye problem in my dimension, with a few doctors with SHIELD, but they all said the same thing. There’s too much optic nerve damage, to even perform it. I guess it’s a lost cause.” He said with a sigh. “Another problem is, I don’t have much money to pay for the surgery. However, the Nanobot suit that I got recently has been making up for it. They help mirror what part of my vision I have lost. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than being blind and having a blind spot.” Kaine said. Kaine was glad at least Otto had brought that into his nanobot technology. He liked talking to May, as he got to meet Peter’s aunt a few times in his dimension. He had almost refused at first in fear that he might hurt her. But then again, things worked out the way they were in the end.
“May, I believe we are here.” He said as he looked up seeing the house. It looked like he was too afraid to open the door himself. He would let May do it since it technically belonged to her. Kaine was starting to feel nostalgic.
“Another version of…Doctor Octopus? That madman is here too?!” May said as she held her arms. That lunatic not only kept trying to kill her nephew, he also almost destroyed New York with a retooled Hydra Island, attacked the city with Asgardian armor, sold out everyone to the Grandmaster and worse of all, hit on her once or twice.
“Oh I hope I never run into him here…” As he spoke about his eye May felt sorry him as she placed a hand on his shoulder. “I’m sorry. I know its hard when you’re in pain. I’ve had hip problems for years myself. But you just need to keep moving forward. Ben always said things like that make you stronger.” She smiled. “And you seem pretty strong.” As they stopped in front of the house, she stared at it. It was so odd, it looked just like her house but the décor was changed. There were pink plastic flamingoes in the grass and flowers she never planted. There was even a tree in the front yard she had to cut down years before because of ants. But the car in the driveway was not hers, not even close.
“So strange. I guess I really am in another world.” She sighed turning away from the house. “This house isn’t mine. My nephew isn’t here.” Opening her purse, she had a couple hundred dollars. “I hope my cash is good at least. I know my credit cards don’t work.” She smiled.
“Well, guess I’ll have to come out of retirement and get a job.” Looking over at Kaine she let out a breath. “Thank you for helping me, I guess I’ll have to look for a hotel or a shelter. I know you didn’t have to since you only know some other version of me. If it means anything I am just as proud of you as I am of the Kaine from my world.”

“I ran into him a few times… His attention seemed to shift on other things other than Spider-Man at the moment. I set up a temporary truce with him to find shards.” Kaine said as he knew he was working on dangerous water with working with Otto. But he had seen a different side of him rather than Peter. He was not going to tell her everything. Not yet, anyway. One thing was enough. He had found an unusual relationship with Otto. "What a shame I felt like there should've been an empty house here... But I guess not."
“The cellular degeneration was terrible. It felt like knives going through your body. I couldn't feel anything without pain, or it would make me crazy. No amount of healing factor, or pain killers would have fixed it. I think it made me go crazy and did things I wasn’t proud of. I’m glad you did not have to see me like that.” Kaine said with a sigh. He frowned then all this way to see a house that had been taken by someone else. He felt bad that he had even mentioned it. All the bad and painful things that have happened to him so far. He nodded, hearing about her hip, and that was the awful part about getting old.
As for the house, he was surprised. He could’ve sworn that Peter had shown him an image of a house in his memories. Then again, it was just that memory. He was second-guessing himself now. At least he tried to help May Parker out… Wait a minute, Kaine had heard that name before. “Uh? Money? You don’t have to give me any May. I do most of the superhero stuff without money, most of the time. Well, except for when rent comes around, I get the wanted ones off the street.” Kaine said. Kaine knew he could probably never hold a job. No one would want a superhero killer running a restaurant or do tasks like accounting that required a degree. Nor had Kaine had any formal education besides being homeschooled, so he was limited in his options. "Proud? Some days, the world feels like it hates me." Kaine said beating himself up again. In a way, it felt nice hearing that from someone. He had only met an Aunt May in his dimension a few times. But he never got the chance to bond.
Kaine knew that he would have to find a job eventually, but he had no idea where to go or what he was good at… Photography? Nope. "I doubt I could hold a job. My creator didn't bother with education other than minimal homeschooling. I can read and write, that was about it... I feel somewhat left out when Peter talks sometimes." Kaine said rubbing the back of his head. However, he felt like he had no choice to accept the money. Then an idea came to him as he heard May speaking up about finding a job. He might've thought of something that make it a little bit easier for her while she was here in this dimension. He wasn't about to let another dimensional Aunt May live on the streets. It seemed so wrong. And in a way, Kaine owed his life for her since she took care of his template. He simply couldn't leave her here.
“Wait a minute, May. This might be hard to believe, but I think I know someone who could help you. There is someone with the name of Mayday Parker. From what this May said, and she is my niece from an alternate dimension. She has an apartment and an empty room if you wish to talk to her, and that was the last time I spoke to her on the Brooklyn Bridge. She is Peter Parker’s daughter from another dimension.” Kaine said. “I think you’ll like her. She's energetic and very eager to do things. And believes in Peter's Great Power Comes in Great Responsibility. If you want I can try and call her right now.” The clone said as he took out his phone, to show May. The picture showed a black-haired woman, who was on the Brooklyn Bridge. She looked younger than him by a few years. It would be a rather unusual family meeting. He would leave it up to May if she wanted to see her younger grand niece. He had a feeling that the family was going to get a whole more complicated as he showed her his phone. Luckily, Kaine had managed to get some of their phone numbers. Only when the chaos had ended, on the events at the bridge. The family resemblance was uncanny.
