For once, it was one of those rare evenings where May didn’t have much going on. She had already done her homework, and the woman downstairs hadn’t said that she had worked for her as she closed up the shop that afternoon a little early since it had been slow. Sometimes running the antique shop gave her the creeps. Ancient furniture lined the walls, other various items, like dolls, and even old items that she hadn’t even heard before. Some of the stuff got dusted at least once or twice a week. To keep it from looking even more like a haunted house. She had told the other woman, that her brother had been living with her, in the other apartment. It was the younger Peter from a different dimension. It wouldn’t have worked from telling the woman it was her alternate dimension father, so she just went with the small white lie even though it was wrong. It had occurred to May that it had just been Summer Solstice just by a few days making things more interesting as the longest hottest days of summer were just ahead of them.
The shop was closed up, and May told Peter that she was going out that afternoon and likely would come back late. May was free to go where she wanted, and she had gotten a date with that odd person named Gerry who had also fallen through a portal. May didn’t know much about him other than he had a symbiote and as well as having spider powers. That much they did have in common. Well, there was a whole lot she was going to ask him tonight.
The bus came to a stop as May had taken one to Cooney Island. She paid her part of the ticket as she knew she could’ve web-slinged there. She had brought a purse with a cute outfit of her own. The place looked rather busy on a Friday night as people were going from ride to ride, and she would wait at the entrance for as long as she could put up with. If the guy didn’t show. she might feel a little bit mad or even worse than that….
But she was going to give him a chance. May looked up seeing the bright lights of the rides like the rollercoasters and Ferris Wheel. May hoped they were going to have a good time there. Forget about their situation and problems. May knew that she would not have to worry about being Spider-Woman, hopefully. May's suit was tucked away in her purse. Now all she could do was wait as she sent a text message to Gerry that she was in the park entrance wearing a black shirt. It was hard to miss a girl with black hair and brown eyes, too. "Now where do you suppose he is?" May asked with one hand on her hip.
Between picking an outfit and getting flowers, time had slipped away from him. Then again, he wasn’t what one would call an expert on dates or girls. He had been in and out of being sheltered or kept in cryo-sleep for much of his life to cure his radiation poisoning. So, he was a little awkward when it came to the dating scene. Not to mention the last person he tried to date had nearly beaten him to a pulp if not for his reflexes. It was no wonder it was advised not to date a Kraven. Besides, he didn’t exactly have much for dating clothes, so he wore a semi-casual formal wear; something date-ish but practical since they were going to Coney Island.
Swinging down to an alley, Gerry peered around before leaving, getting there the fastest way he knew without a vehicle and spotted May just as she was sending a text. “May!” He called out to her, looking rather sheepish and flustered for being so late. “Uh, hey.” He greeted nervously, holding one hand behind his back as he rubbed the back of his neck. “Sorry for being so late, I didn’t know what to wear.” He admitted before bringing his other hand forward, showing what had been a bouquet of roses but had mostly fallen apart due to his rush.
Well, he had at least two that survived.
“Uh, these are for you.” He tried to salvage the situation a little, letting the broken apart roses fall but holding out the two good ones towards her. Least he was trying not to be a complete doof.

“Aw, that’s so… Sweet of you,” May said. She saw some of the falling over flowers or the two remaining ones. It was true that May was a bit of a tomboy, and Gerry had put in the effort for it, for bringing flowers. “How are you doing since I last saw you at the bridge?” She asked as she accepted the flowers. “It’s alright, Gerry. You aren’t late,” May admitted as she accepted the flowers and hung onto them. Er, what has left anyways. “I remember my dad having tried to get flowers usually they got wrecked before he could hand them over to his mom since he had to fight a bad guy along the way as Spider-Man.” She said with a soft giggle. It was still true that she missed them and had a desire to go home. However, it appeared she had made some friends here and even made some attachment towards her newfound friends… And maybe some enemies.
Though the web warriors had gained an interest in Brooklyn Bridge, May had still been concerned about a certain Spider that wasn’t a part of the family well, not at first anyway. She had been concerned, about White Widow as Sarah seemed far more violent than any of the other spiders that she had encountered. Even worse than her uncle.
“Well, then shall we go for the rides? We could try the Ferris wheel or even the Merry Go Round. Unless you want to try something a bit more serious like the Rollercoaster.” May offered. “I will admit I know when we came together on the Bridge, we managed to stop AIM from taking over… However, I was genuinely concerned about a certain White Widow.” There seemed to be a fair amount of people out here tonight, and they were going to enjoy it here while they were out. May wasn’t going to let some supervillains ruin their night out. It had been a while since she had dated anyone. May had looked up to the sky where the lights were hanging and saw all the rides. They had gotten there at a decent time where the crowds weren't too big. There weren't too many people around to call it crowded. May just wanted to have some fun and forget things like her school, her super heroics or anything else that came along. It was a nice break.
Well, at least May wasn’t furious. Or, trying to punch him in a way to show her rejection. He still had nightmares of the female Kraven trying to chase him down when he had gotten a bit too bold in the moment. “Glad you like them.” He smiled with relief, “I’ve...actually never been on a date, so I’m not very good with them. Spent a lot of my life not interacting with many people except those closest to the family or the Amazing Eight.” Gerry admitted, hoping it might ease any of their troubles should they arise. But, at least she knew he was trying, whether this date was just as friends or develop into more.
As they began walking further into the buzzing fair grounds, Gerry answered, “And I’ve been doing alright. Managed to snag a job as a lab assistant at Empire State and become a student there, give me something to do while I’m stranded here.” Not that he minded really. He missed his home universe of course, but so far this universe hadn’t been a completely bad experience. There were other spider heroes and a handful of people he met seemed pretty open and accepting when he spoke to them. He just was a little more careful to not reveal what he really was. “Seems we’ve both at least found a way to make full use of our time here in this universe.” He said with a bright grin, seeming to find the positive in their grim situation. But tonight, he didn’t want to think about it.
“How about we start off things with a bang? Go for the rollercoaster first since we’re kind of use to the fast paced anyway.” He suggested. Though probably not the best choice for someone with his condition. Rollercoasters could be rough and bumpy, meaning if the skin broke he would be bleeding for hours after but seemed to not think about it in that moment. “Though perhaps this time we just enjoy a good rush rather than web-slinging to danger.” He mused, heading towards the rollercoaster then. “Can never go wrong with a little adrenaline rush.”
But when the subject turned to the more violent individual of their ragtag group, Gerry could only frown. “I don’t necessarily agree with her methods either May, but we all do come from difference universe or times. For all we know, that’s all she knows how to do to handle a situation. Hell, she never even told us her real name yet so we can only speculate her reasoning.” He pointed out, shaking his head. “If she’s trouble we’ll handle it when we cross that bridge, no pun intended. Whether we agree with her methods or not, she is still one of us.”

“It’s alright, Gerry,” May said. May assured Gerry those things were going to be fine. “I haven’t dated many people. My friend was Harry Osborn’s kid for a while. Until he turned into the Green Goblin, things got especially complicated. That's what you get when you have a protective father and the parker bloodline my uncle always said it was cursed. He might've been right. And also too busy for it.” May said with a sigh as she knew that the Peter in her timeline was still Spider-Man, but he had since retired. May hadn’t exactly gotten many dates in her own time either. May knew that her crime-fighting career and school were going to be more important than dates. But when Gerry showed up, they knew that they were going to be in for something interesting. She thought he looked rather cute in costume. Except, he was a bit like her where they fell through a portal, “I did have a few other friends, but I think I didn’t have time for dating.” She admitted.
May smiled, and it sounded like Gerry had been doing well with himself. “I’m glad to see that you are doing well, Gerry. I have been going to college and working at an antique shop that is in Queens. You should come by some time, or just to say hi. The landlady found me after I fell through a portal and landed not far from her building. The empire state building sounds like a great place to start up on a new place of work. Maybe I’ll come and visit you.” She said with a soft nod.
Starting with a bang and with a challenge? That sounded good to her. May thought going on a rollercoaster would be a lot of fun. “Oh, a rollercoaster!? That sounds like a lot of fun.” May said, smiling, and not wanting to get anyone sick or making sure that they didn’t lose their lunch. There were a few wooden rollercoaster rides. That would be interesting and look at the old rollercoasters that had been here for years. Or the high-tech ones built a few years ago. “We can go on one of the new ones or wooden rollercoasters.” She offered.
“I suppose you’re right, but she goes against everything against a spider and the Great Power,” May said with a sigh. “There’s even an alternate dimension uncle of mine running around, Gerry. He seems a bit grumpier than the one that I knew. So not surprised, just a bit concerned at the same time.” May said. May knew that she might have to keep an eye out for White Widow in the future. May had a lot on her mind and knew that things might get worse. If May ever encountered White Widow, she would make a note to be on guard and cautious.
“Come on Gerry, instead of talking, and we’ll get in line before they get too long.” She said excitedly with the idea of going on a rollercoaster. It was a nice change from the stressful life of being a student college woman. “I am glad we went on a date. It was a nice change of pace.” May offered hoping they'd have a good time. She was about ready to leave but she wasn't going to leave Gerry behind. That seemed very rude. Then she realized she had the same trait as her father, she had been talking a lot. Perhaps she was excited. It had been a long time since she felt this excited. Just because she was a girl, she too could be a spider. she felt like a lot of people looked at her the wrong way and thought she was helpless. Until she threw a powerful punch at the Green Goblin or the likes of other villains. May could hold her ground just fine, and that was when she began to locate the rollercoaster which was one of the largest rides there. She also took a mental note of where the others were.
"You almost dated an Osborn? Man, I thought I was brave." Gerry chuckled slightly as they walked, "I got a bit bold in the moment and tried asking one of the Spider-Girls on my team out. A Kravinoff is not someone I advise being exceptionally bold with, I about got pummeled to a pulp if not for Spider-Ham and Miles stepping in." The young spider hero shuddered as he recalled Ana nearly catching him. She wasn't formally called Kraven the Hunter for nothing after her father, and he knew better than to ever be so bold with a girl again. At least, be more cautious about it.
Though he still smiled slightly, "You're more than welcome to come by the lab when lessons aren't happening. My lab partners bring their significant others all the time." He assured her, not minding the outside company. His lab partners weren't bad, but they weren't exactly people he wanted to deal with on a daily basis either. "But I'll make sure to do the same with the antique shop. Who knows, maybe I'll like old stuff after a while." He joked slightly, following may towards the rollercoaster, eyeing the older wooden ones which seemed rickety and moved about abruptly. The thought of being in one made him rub his arm, knowing his long sleeved shirt would grant him some protection as well as his durable skin. Maybe he was overthinking it...
But he quickly came back from his thoughts as May pointed out the concern she held towards White Widow. "I know May. It won't be easy on any of us, maybe more so Kaine since even in my universe he's had a rough past. But, maybe he knows how to handle her." Gerry tried to see the positive side to the situation. If this Kaine had in fact known what it was like to walk on the dark side, maybe he knew better than anyone how to keep someone on the straight and narrow. "Not all spiders are heroes unfortunately, or might walk the razor's edge of the light and dark. We never know where we may end up." Though he didn't quite go into detail that he himself almost wasn't able to be a hero.
Such a thought made him grimace slightly, wondering if another universe version of him existed that was like that.
"How about one of the modern ones? Then we can get a feel for the old wooden ones, see how different they are." Gerry suggested as he quickly moved to get in line to the closest one, quite excited as well. In fact, he much preferred to move off the subject of worrying about their heroic lives. They had the rest of their lives to be concerned about it, but in this moment he wanted to just be normal. As May said, it was a welcomed change. "It was worth being late for." He said with a grin, albeit still having an apologetic tone.

“We lived stone’s throw away from each other… It wasn’t all that bad until Normie had the Green Goblin serum put on him… I feel like the Osborn name has a curse or something on them. Just Normie had the unfortunate part of being a villain, and we were forced to split up after that. Eventually, I thought he died too.” May said. May knew she had her own unfinished business in her dimension. Who else would be protecting the streets, besides the younger generation of supers who were still wandering around? She worried a little bit about them. May wondered how her friends and family were getting by. And she hoped that one day she’d be able to return. “I guess the one thing I miss the most, is not seeing my family. It’s rather lonely here…” May said with a sigh.
May smiled, “I’d like that. You can show me what you’ve been up to on studying or experiments. As for the antique shop, there are lots there like old chairs, desks, portraits, statues, even the creepier type of dolls. I tend to not hang around after closing hours… The place gets a little spooky even for me.” May admitted as the darkness and all the lights off seemed to not appeal to her at all. She knew for a fact if she was going to go down there alone, there better be a good reason for it. “Not that anyone has died… It just gives off a weird atmosphere at night.” She admitted realizing she might make it sound like it was worse than it was.
The young woman nodded as she listened to Gerry about his own past. It sounded like he had his own deal of troubles as it did with any super hero or spider hero for that matter. Wearing the mantle was not an easy task as May had learned that the hard way. Some spiders, true walked a fine line of good and evil. While some were set out to destroy you, even if they were gifted with powers.May had always tried to walk on the good side. As far as taking her father's motto with her. “Yeah, Kaine has had a bad past in my dimension as well. He doesn’t like talking about it too much. All he told me was he went down to Houston to try to be a superhero there for a while, and it didn’t work out... I don’t blame him.” May said. “Kaine, however, is doing his best he can as a hero. He rescued me as an infant,” May said. The young woman had never admitted it to anyone but to her father. She did have a tiny bit of a soft spot for rescuing her in the past. She also had her uncle Ben who was Peter’s clone as well. The two talked rather frequently as he was busy with their own lives.
May looked up and saw one of the nearby rollercoasters, and it was preparing for boarding people on. She knew some people were afraid of them. But May wasn’t. It made her think of how she thought web-slinging was scary at first. It was similar to the thrill of flying up high above everyone else and the speed. Of course, the ups and downs and loop di loops may be one close way of getting into web-slinging. “That sounds good to me, and the modern one was this way. I think I saw it when we first got in,” May said. The young woman saw that they were on the far right past the concession stands. She knew to make a mental note to come back when they were hungry to get something to eat here. “I enjoyed the date so far; Gerry doesn’t worry about being late. If there’s one thing, Parker’s are notorious for being late, too.” May said with a soft giggle.
