In a million years, Mary never would have thought of becoming a hero. She had been content with a normal, married life, of someday settling down to have a family or just enjoy life with Her ex-husband. But, with all that and more torn away, she had had found little direction in her life other than work, and even then that was precarious at best since coming to this universe. Her contract with the Met has been done and she had only just moved into a full-time status at the Atomic Research Center.
Still, her mind never would have gone to this until recent times.
Recent events deemed it that villains no longer held back. They were emboldened to take over a city without its protector, where a small part remained that seemed not under control. Things had been no different in New York; crime had become more frequent and thugs were getting bolder. With a need for heroes rising, Mary had taken back her idea of becoming one and decided to work on her own body suit, more of an armor of sorts that would work with her existing Inhuman abilities. And she had made it, but it had taken a handful of months until she could get it to configure right to her biology. And with the times not being nearly advanced, it took additional time and resources to do the modifications herself. Satisfied with the results and the small tests, she decided it was time to give it a proper field run.
Now, the young woman stood on one of the cranes that operated the loading docks, having climbed up when the workers had gone on break that afternoon. Carefully moving to the highest part of the crane, she slowly etched closer, peering down and gulping as her heart raced. This was insane...Yet, she felt a faint sense of exhilaration at the same time, telling herself everything would work out.
Mentally activating the amplifiers in her suit, she triggered her photon manipulation to create hard-light insectoid wings resembling a dragonfly’s on her back, glancing back and giving them a few test flaps before triggering her gravitation lifts for additional flight support and allowing her body to hover off the crane arm. Alright, so far so good. “Alright Mary, lets do this.” She told herself, “Baby steps, now the large ones.” Moving her body forward, Mary allowed her body to go into a free fall before fluttering the hard-light wings at a speed that worked with the motion of her body and the gravity lifts and pulled her up a few feet above from the ground. Yes, yes! It was working! Not only did she gradually pick up speed, but Mary activated her on-set scanning systems, allowing her sonar to extend to her surroundings to bring up a 3-D mapping of her path as she flew.
Why hadn’t she done this earlier? Well, little did Mary know she was about to find out her new found appreciation for the heroic life was about to get a harsh dose of reality.

At the same time not far from her location someone else was working on their own project. The door to a rooftop on a nearby apartment building was suddenly knocked upward as it landed hard on the corner of the roof! Two long actuators with glowing green optics emerged and gripped the gravel roof as Otto Octavius pulled himself out into the open air. He was wearing his new white uniform with a brown leather overcoat over it. Held in the upper right actuator was a large cylindrical device as he made his way over to the corner of the building. The upper left arm spied the building's wi-fi antenna and scanned it. Setting the device down Otto nodded.
“Perfect. Once this device is in place, we will install the others around the city.” He said as his arms went to work. Separating the power line from the antenna the lower right arm began to solder the connections together using its built-in arc welder. The upper left actuator kept vigil as it scanned the area. Suddenly it got a strange ping and began to screech!
“What signal?” Otto asked half paying attention as he concentrated on his work. “It's probably just someone’s drone or a news chopper. Pay it no mind…” He said as the welder created a shower of sparks. After a moment he took a step back as the device came online and a small dish extended and it began to transmit.
“Excellent. One down, several to go…” He sighed before packing up the remaining parts.

After a few minutes of testing her systems, Mary finally came to a stop to hover above the shipping crates. The test so far was a success and exhilarating, giving her a thrill she had not felt before. Was this what it was like to be a hero? To be able to find purpose in using one's own skills to do good? Whatever the case, the appeal was there.
However, her excitement was soon cut short as her scanners picked up on something new. Her eyes shifted to her on-boards computers, surprised to find a positive ID on the signal she had been trying to ping for months since she discovered the drone some months ago. Though she felt bad for lying to Strange, it seemed for the better to see who exactly had been following one of them. Despite her tinkering however, she hadn't been able to triangulate the signal, wondering if her methods had not been strong enough until now. Or, perhaps the source was close for once. Perhaps her suit was a good idea after all for more than one thing.
Turning on the spot, she followed the steady ping until she found the direction in which it was strongest and began to slowly follow.
Slowly, as she got closer the faster and stronger the signal until she found herself coming across a familiar face. Wasn't that..."Otto?" Her scrambled voice inquired where he could hear it, flinching slightly as one of his actuators screeched as it seemed to detect her just before she arrived. Not that the man seemed to pay it much mind, focused on setting up some sort of device resembling a satellite dish. Now what could he possible be up to?
